You're not a gymnast, so why are you still using their chalk? Metolius Super Chalk is formulated with a special drying agent added to the highest quality magnesium carbonate to give you better friction. It's the original chalk designed solely for rock climbing. Try it and feel the difference the next time you're slapping a sloper on an 85-degree day.
Bottom Line: Keep your hands super dry on super-hot days with Metolius Super Chalk.
Maybe I need to wash my hands, maybe I just need to not be so nervous about climbing all the time... Well the bottom line is that my hands sweat like hell and this is the only way i've found so far to fix that problem mid-wall.
I was amazed at how dry my hands felt the first time using this chalk. My hands constantly sweat and this stuff instantly dried them. I feel like it doesn't provide quite as much grip as Black Diamond, but it definitely makes my hands feel more dry.

This is the best chalk for rockclimbing hands down. We go rappeling in south GA where it gets hot and we sweat a lot but this stuff keeps your hands dry and allows you to keep a good grip
This stuff gets the job done. If you get sweaty hands climbing this is the stuff to have in your bag. I have noticed while in the winter months that it almost dries my hands too much so I have to use a little lotion here and there other wise my hands will be cracking left and right. No biggie, just something to keep an eye on. This stuff is a deal!
Good chalk. It cost much less from Backcountry than my local outdoors shop. I use a mix of straight from the bag and also in conjuction with a chalk sock. I also mix it in with some super fine chalk for a premium blend. Overall good to go.
The first bag i bought a year ago worked awesome. The last bag i bought a few weeks ago does not work at all. Its almost a lube. As soon as i put it on my hands are wet again about 5 seconds later. I dont know if I got a bad bag or what but i think that it is acting as a lube kinda like a graphite lube for bearings. Might try another bag to see if i just got a bad batch but not impressed right now.
I'm a big fan of this chalk. I've been using it so long I can't imagine using anything else now. It makes my hands more dry than anything I've used previously (bison balls, white gold, etc) and I like the combination of chalk chunks along with the loose chalk. 5/5!
This was the first chalk I ever bought, and the only chalk I've bought since. A little goes a long way with this stiff, which is a plus on longer routes. I mostly use it for bouldering... It has not let me down yet.
Climbing on an tropical island the humidity really gets to you and thus really sweaty hands. This chalk works real well and with no draw backs. Unlike other chalk that make my hands either to powdery which makes my hands slippery or comes off to fast, this chalk works.
I thought I was sure about amount of chalk 5 lbs is, but I was surprised when I saw this bag for the first time! It really is a whole bunch of chalk. It's easily going to last me a few years as an avid (3-5 times a week) climber. My only request? It needs to come with a silo so I can store it and fill my bucket up easily!
Has anyone noticed a change in metolius super chalk? i bought the 5lb refill bag last year and it lasted my friend and i almost a year. i just purchased a re-up 5lb bag and the chalk feels totally different. before it felt like a sticky white glove, now its way too fine and powdery and doesn't seem to stick to my hands as well. anyone else notice this?
I was running low on chalk and asked my buddy for some (he just bought a whole new bag) and the texture was very different from the stuff I had been using. The new chalk didn't seen to stick as all to my hands. I seemed very granular instead of powdery. Has the Metolius Super chalk recipe changed?
I find that the chalk is quite slippery. That being said it dries the hands well and if you blow your hands after the dip, its not so bad. I personally prefer white gold
I like this chalk a lot, but I have to admit that I custom blend my own chalk - I use this and white gold. I grind both into very fine powder using a hand-held blender and then I mix the two together. I do this because although the drying agent in Super Chalk is awesome, it does more damage to my hands than good when I use it 100% by itself. And White Gold just doesn't stick to my hands as well as Super Chalk and it's also just not as grippey (sp?). But if I can rest frequently then I'm fine with using a higher concentration of White Gold. When I'm going for routes with very few and insecure rests, then I mix in more Superchalk since it also lasts longer.
Yes, I do probably do think about chalk way too much.
I agree the chalk can tear up the hands really quickly- serious damage if you don't take the counterbalances-ie-really good lotion-hand cream after the climb. Kinda speaks for the effectiveness of it though....
When your nervous or the holds been greased with chicken fat this chalk works wonders. It goes on smoothly and applies an even coating of dryness but when you start to sweat or encounter some greasier holds the chalk kicks up a level drying out more. The only down fall is that your hand do look rather wrecked when your done. But its completely worth it.
What more do you expect from chalk? It makes your hands incredibly dry, and is the perfect solution if you get noticeably sweaty hands - like myself. Drys skin, and absorbs sweat making boulder and lead climbing that much easier.
There is no equal to this chalk. I won't use anything else. Fun fact: God did not help Moses part the Red Sea, Moses just threw a bag of superchalk in when nobody was looking.
For the most part chalk is chalk. Helps my hands stick. I would say that I'd like it with fewer chunks-- sometimes it seems like I'm wasting more of it when it isn't powdery, as the little chunks in this roll right off my hands. But, I'm overall pleased. Nice big bag saves money and packaging.
I like the blocks of Metolius climbing chalk better I think. It's easy to use too much of this stuff at once, it looks like it wears off quickly, but it actually does keep you dry.
Chalk is chalk, right? Wrong! This is by far the best chalk that I have used. No slippage whatsoever. Great for bouldering since its already broken down. You can just dip your hands in and climb!
this does a great job of drying out my hand, drying out my cuticles and making them crack and get sore. It does the job it was meant to do, it seems though to dry my hands out more than my old black diamond chalk. The chalk doesn't stay on my hand as long as other chalk, but I do think it drys that sweat off better than other chalk.
I am also a chemist. I have used other chalk in the past and will return to block chalk after I am through with this bag. I have never had sweaty hands, but actually this stuff dries so well I think your skin ratchets up the sweat/oil making your fingers loose grip. I can almost do better w/o it.
Held up against Black Diamond White Gold, I prefer this chalk and it is a bit cheaper. Tested on the slabs of Little Cottonwood Canyon which makes most people sweat pretty quick when looking at a huge runout put up by some crazy old guy in leather boots.
I seem to go through this stuff pretty fast. I don't know if it is the chalk or my numerous incredible sends (jk). This stuff gets the job done for sure. It sticks nice and stays on for a good amount of time.
This chalk is really good stuff, it dries off your hand and helps it stick, without ruining your hands for the climbing. The nice big bag will last a while too1
I really can't believe how you people buy into these gimmicks. Lets pay $4-5 for MAGNESIUM CARBONATE when u could have payed $1 for a block of the same stuff. Lol drying agent?? I'm a chemist and I'd love to know what Metolius considers a "drying agent." Magnesium carbonate sounds like the only drying agent to me.
Wow I just cant stop laughing at you materialistic fools
"What it would feel like to be way, way too dry? I'll tell you something: You don't want to know." -South Park
That's it. I'm off the sauce. Super Chalk dries out my skin too much. If I use it outside during the summer, my skin starts to hurt before I'm even tired. If I use it inside the gym during the winter - Game Over. My skin will hurt, I'll get splits in the joints of my fingers and I'm much more likely to split a cuticle on the side of my thumbnails.
I ended up giving my bag of super chalk to a friend because I just couldn't use it without skin pain. He does things with this chalk that I can't even get into in a website review, with no ill effects. Proud.
I'll give this chalk 5 stars because it does what climbing chalk is supposed to do: keeps your hands dry. I'm docking it 1 star because the drying chemical they use irritates the shit out of my skin and that makes me sad.
Try it. I seem to be in the minority with my delicate constitution.
Maybe I need to wash my hands, maybe I just need to not be so nervous about climbing all the time... Well the bottom line is that my hands sweat like hell more...
I was amazed at how dry my hands felt the first time using this chalk. My hands constantly sweat and this stuff instantly dried them. I feel like it doesn't more...
