The Metolius Safe Tech Men's Deluxe Harness is one of the best fitting, safest harnesses in the world. The Men's Deluxe is a beefed up version of the All-Around and is designed to lend maximum support to the lower back while simultaneously providing unparalleled freedom of movement. Hard on the outside, soft on the inside with a tough 1050d Ballistics outer layer and a polyethylene foam with brushed inner lining, it is ideal for Big Wall and long Trad routes where comfort is crucial. Metolius' sophisticated adjustment system lets you fine tune the fit by adjusting the riser length; that is the distance between the waist belt and the leg loops. This harness also boasts the world's toughest and longest wearing tie-in points. Every component, including leg risers, the gear, haul, and belay loops are engineered to withstand a load of at least 2250 lbf (10kN)—that's FULL strength and typically the max impact force rating of a modern climbing rope. **ABOUT SAFE TECH HARNESSES: Due to an alarming number of accidents involving the misuse of harnesses and/or the failure of harness components, Metolius designed their Safe Tech Series with every possible margin of safety in mind. The structural systems of the Safe Tech harness have been made as redundant and error-proof as possible, e.g., the waist buckle even shows the word ‘DANGER' if not correctly double-passed.
Bottom Line: Equal parts ingenuity and brute strength, Safe Tech harnesses perform true to their name.
No speed buckles and thick gear loops that take a little getting used to cost this harness a star. Smaller biners can catch on the loops if your not paying attention.
The adjustable rise makes for exceptional comfort. Once you get everything set right, this harness will fit like it was made for you. I find that long belays and long falls are much more comfortable than in my old BD harness.
I find the main benefit of the full strength components is that every piece of the harness feels like it will last for many seasons. I've had nonessential things tear on other harnesses, which was annoying enough to make me by a new one; however, there's not a single piece on this harness that looks like I could possibly blow.
Great harness, not the most convenient, but very comfortable and great durability.
This is the best built harness I've had. It's easy to adjust to an exact fit and doesn't ever need readjusting. Very comfortable on the lower back. Super solid construction.

This is the second one I've bought. I lost some weight, so I had to get a new harness. I checked all other ones, and the Metolius Safe Tech Deluxe Harness is the best of the best! It is super comfortable, it's like you're not wearing any harness, yet you feel the strong construction and high quality materials. A+ Recommended!
Unless Metolious revamped their Safe-Tech harness line, all their harnesses require you to double back the strap. (You can even see the waist strap doubled back in the picture above.) Their harnesses are, however, rated to withstand certain kN loads with the strap only single-threaded through the buckle. Not a good idea to test that out, though.
I recently lost quite a bit of weight and was forced to purchase a new harness (nearly fell out of my old one). My wife had the Metolius Safe Tech Deluxe and was constantly raving about it, so I decided to give it a try. To my surprise this harness was the most comfortable, safe and well constructed harness that I have ever worn.
The Metolius Safe Tech Deluxe is great for belaying both inside and outside and is a dream if you have to hang on the rock for a period of time. The 3-D adjustable rise is fantastic and when dialed in makes for a perfect cutom fit.
I did a lot of research online before purchasing this harness, and that research really paid off. I have already recommended this harness to climbing friends and will continue to do so.
A very comfortable harness with all the safety features that a climber needs. Only issue is the diameter of the gear loops. It takes a little practice to get use to the larger diameter when placing gear on and off the harness.
I'm looking for a harness to use climbing sailboat masts where I will be sitting in the same position for extended periods, generally no longer than 30 minutes at a time, but sometimes up to an hour. I have a bonsun chair, but it doesn't get me close enough to the masthead. Think this one would be comfortable enough for that? Thanks, Scott.
This harness is more comfortable than most harnesses if you have to hang in it for a while, but depending your weight you might want to get the Waldo. I'm about 170 and have hung in it for up to 6hrs and it is much better than the regular safe tech harness with the smaller waist belt, but the Waldo would probably be much more comfortable.
This harness is designed for big wall climbing, where you'd be eating, hanging, and sleeping in it for days. Having been in your exact same situation before with a normal harness, I feel confident that this harness will suit your needs well. Yates makes one with even wider straps (not sold on this site), but it's heavier, so take that into consideration.
This is my fifth harness, and it is by far the most comfortable. It's been on two walls and a high ropes course. No fall has been greater than 10 ft, and it is surprisingly pleasant just swinging in midair. Although, the main waist buckle could use a little better design for ease in tightening. So, on the 1-10 scale: it gets an 8.5
I bought it to be a lightweight big wall harness (lighter than my Yates) and I was disappointed to discover that the leg loops can't be completely removed from the harness for sleeping at night. I might have to take a knife to it.
This thing is comfy. It's nothing that I would want to hang from all day long, but for half to all day aid routes this beats the snot out of other free climbing harnesses. Super wide back, nice padding all around and adjustable leg loops. The gear loops are nice and big too for racking lots of gear and look like they will be bomber durable. I haven't had it long enough to test this theory but I'm confident they'll last a long, long time. If you are like me and like to climb in comfort and enjoy the longer, mellower routes, this harness should be considered. It's not a sport climbers harness - it's more like a Cadillac then a Ferrari.
This harness rocks!! You can fine tune the perfect fit with the 3-D adjustable rise. I am also psyched on having every loop on the harness full strength. If I pull some bonehead move and clip into a gear loop the Safe-tech harness has got me covered!! You can't go wrong with Metolius!!
Harness really worked as advertised. Was completely satisfied. It was also a real pleasure working with the BackcountryStore tech support people. So, a good experience all around; a rare thing in today's world.
This harness is very comfortable to belay students all day. Luckily found time to test the fit and ergonomics while actually climbing too! Once you tailor fit it you''ll be amazed at how well it works. For Clydesdale types like me it's the first harness that's a joy to be in all day.
Being new to climbing, I wanted a good quality harness that would last for years. After looking at what safe tech offered with its (make no mistakes no accidents) harness, I was very impressed. It fit great! The staff at backcountry.com were very helpful and I feel like I paid for exactly what I wanted, the best.
I have been a belay slave, a route setter, and a guide. This harness has been great on the ground, hang doggin, and even good for those long whippers. Easy on, easy off, and comfortable all day.
The Safe Tech Deluxe Harness is quite impressive with the numerous safety features and the logic behind them. More as a bonus, this is the most comfortable climbing harness I have ever worn. I feel I could do a hanging belay for hours without discomfort. I've climbed with it 3 times now, and dialed in the system to make one awesome rig. Definitely the best harness out there.
No speed buckles and thick gear loops that take a little getting used to cost this harness a star. Smaller biners can catch on the loops if your not paying more...
