Description

Bigger than the average pad.

The Metolius Recon Crash Pad folds small for easy transport, but when opened it offers more landing area than standard-size crash pads. Its cleverly designed shape manages to be four inches narrower when folded than most pads, yet its new sandwich foam design allows excellent shock absorption when you have to bail from above. Ballistic nylon on the bottom boosts durability, while a small external and larger internal pocket give you easy spots for your shoes, chalk bag, and keys.
  • Internal pocket provides a places to stash shoes and a chalk bucket
  • Padded shoulder straps for easy carry
  • Drag handles for quick relocation while you climber is topping out a problem
  • Unbreakable metal buckles

A lot of pad for the price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

By far the most pad you can buy for the price. It is thick enough and firm enough to provide cush landings from "highballs" but soft enough for low overhanging roofs. However, even with the huge area, it is always nice to have at least 2 pads while bouldering. Your spotters can move them around easier and you can put them at crucial landing areas rather than just one. Love the carpet for wiping shoes and buckles for quick clips. Also have to love the hybrid hinge. Enough room inside the pad to transport the essentials but not as much as most people like to take on their bouldering adventures. Comfortable backpack straps with waist strap. Good foam that has lasted and should continue to last a long time. Buy it and likely won't need an additional to get out there and crush some boulders! Otherwise, you can buy 2 pads and strap them together while walking in (I find this more useful than just having one pad)

I fell and it was there to save me...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Easy to carry for the size and awesome surface coverage. In several occasions I have used only this pad as protection.

The only minor ringer of this pad is that fact that it is a tri-fold. To make it flat and sturdy you will need to attach and use all velcros, otherwise you risk of hurting your ankle by getting your foot stuck. It takes valuable effort and time. Nevertheless this is a very minor price to pay for such great pad. In fact, the tri-fold is actually a plus: it makes it easy to carry and in uneven ground, you can leave one of the sides up for a better fit to the terrain.

Great!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love the size of this crash pad. It's pretty large but not too heavy to handle. The padding is durable but soft enough to soften the fall. Easy to clean as well!

Awesome crash pad!

Super durable and takes falls as good or better than anything else I've ever used. What more can you ask for. For the quality, you really can't beat the price.

SO SICK!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This thing is the perfect size. I feel as though the MAGNUM is far too large to carry around, especially if you have to trek out to a boulder field rather than hop out of the car and get spoiled like in the Yosemite Valley or Bishop areas. It offers the same soft catch as the magnum and is durable as hell.

I appreciate the copious amount of room to store shoes, chalk, etc as well. One of the only pads on the market that can boast this space for sure!

I LOVE MINE, MY FRIENDS LOVE IT, GO OUT AND GET YOURSELF THIS CRASHPAD!

Mom's Fears Reduced

I bought this crash pad for my son and he says it works well. It is very lightweight and he also uses it as a mattress for camping.
