The Metolius Monster 9.8mm Rope has the easy handling of a thin line, the durability of a fat line, and Monster Markers to reduce the chances of accidents while belaying and rappelling. Monster Markers are bright pieces of string that stick out from the rope in the middle and 30ft from each end. These highly visible marks are felt when they travel through your hands, so it's less likely that you'll lower or rappel past the end of your rope. Each Monster rope is also Teflon coated for increased abrasion resistance, and their specially twisted cores reduce kinking and increase your rope's life. Even with all these safety features, the 9.8mm Monster Rope maintains the excellent handling you need for hard redpoints and long, difficult trad climbs.

I've had my rope, 70mDry, for more than a month now, and it's a beast. Still gets a few kinks here and there, but the overall break in time was easy. Haven't take any huge whippers on it, but I've had the opportunity to load it fairly heavily and the dynamic properties are well suited. I was a little skeptical about the fluorescent markers, but i've come to love them. You really can fell them run through your hand on belay and on rap, and they always catch my eye when they're coming close. Of course NO marker is a substitute for proper safety skills. Thanks Backcountry for solid gear and expedited shipping times...

Has a very nice hand but I'm not terribly impressed with the cosmetic durability--one day of cragging and it already looks pretty shabby. Maybe that's just how the sheath wears on this rope--it's supposed to be long wearing, so only time will tell. Otherwise I'm very happy with it. The Monster markers look cool, but I haven't noticed them running through my hands (one of the purported benefits). Oh and I didn't think the tapered ends would matter, but they are very nice for knot tying.
