Freenut Nut Tool w/Palm Protector

Metolius added a palm protector to the Freenut Nut Tool to save your hand during those agro cleaning sessions to clean your partner's too-tight piece of protection. Combine this comfortable feature with the Freenut's built-in wire gate carabiner and excellent tip hook, and you have yourself one of the most plush nut tools on the market.

Bottom Line: Stuck gear stands no change against the cleaning power of the Freenut Nut Tool.

it certainly does what a nut tool needs to do - it gets gear unstuck. but, then again, what nut tool doesn't do that? these tools differ from one another only in terms of the 'bells and whistles' - palm protector, little wiregate, keeper leash. this palm protector works, but the wiregates on the metolius freenut tools i've used or fooled around with don't snap closed like carabiner gates normally do, making it sort of pointless. if you're looking for a good nut tool with worthwhile extras, go for the Wild Country Pro-Key nut tool. the palm protector is more integrated to the device, the gate actually snaps closed, and it comes with a thin, coiled-wire leash and minibiner that doesn't interfere when you're bashing out a piece. as an added bonus, the integrated leash saves you a carabiner and sling to attach your nut tool to yourself.

It Works

This nut tool works well for removing stuck pro (don't they all?). The integrated "carabiner" works pretty well, and I've never had a problem with it. Also, the palm protector is a nice (but optional) feature. Only downside (as compared to something like the Pro-Key) is that you have to tie your own leash, but this takes about one minute and a couple of feet of spare cordage. Overall, nothing amazing, but works well for it's intended purpose.

The Best

This tool has a great angle for getting in behind stuck nuts. The material also keeps this tool from bending unlike some alternatives

Worth The Money

This little guy is worth every penny. The palm protector lets you get out the most stuck nuts with only minimal bruising to your hand. The little carabiner on it makes it light since you don't need a full size one to attach it to your harness. This is the best shaped nut tool out there also.
