Description

Keep your hands dry and keep the mess down with the Metolius Chalk Sock.

The Metolius Chalk Sock provides a quick and easy alternative for climbers who don't like loose chalk spilling all over the place when they climb. This item also fits in well at gyms that don't allow loose chalk. The Chalk Sock keeps your hands just as dry as regular chalk, but it won't spill all over the place when you fall.

Great sock.
Great sock.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Takes a while to get it out but once it starts releasing it does great.

These chalk socks are good but not the best. The reason I say that is because it takes too much effort getting the chalk out of it. When you are pumped out of your mind on a route, the last thing you want to be doing is thinking about squeezing the chalk out of this sock.

I like loose chalk personally but if I had to go with a chalk sock, I would say, the chalk sock So ill makes. So much more chalk comes out of those things than these guys.

The chalk is reasonable, but you WILL get a work out in your hands before you start climbing just to pump some chalk through the material. I had read this in other reviews and thought people were griping about nothing... ITS TRUE!!! It should be re-named "METALlius" chalk bag, nevertheless he chalk once you get it on your hands is good. Would pick something else next time :)

Good chalk

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After a little bet of kneading to get it all loose the chalk will come right out. It's good chalk. It will never feel as find or smooth as loose chalk but it's great for gym use since most won't allow loose chalk to avoid the mess.

Literally a sock full of chalk

its now become an insult between my friends and I because we love it so much. I know it doesn't exactly make sense but hey, whatever works right? and this thing gets the job done. you don't have to work to get the chalk to your grippers and it doesn't spew everywhere. i"ll be keeping this for a good while.

Metolius Chalk Sock

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great friend to have when climbing in full summer heat! I'm an advocate of chalk socks, it cuts down on waste, dries while gives an even layer of chalk to whole hand, not just fingertips, and helps me focus when catching my breath while chalking.
Some people love'em and some hate'em, but it's really just a sock that does it's job.
I do keep a little loose chalk in the bag just to insure my fingers get covered.
This sock has held up good for at least a year and I will replace it when needed with another refillable Metolius Chalk Sock.

good stuff

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It does what it is intended to do, and I am very happy with that result.

It's chalk. In a Sock.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

As others have said, breaking it in ( by smashing it a lot) is the only way I've been able to finally get the amount of chalk dust out I need.

For the price it works great.

Does the job

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am happy with this chalk sock. It does the job. It takes a while to break it in and it seems to work better once it has been. Not a ton of chalk comes out, so I found it works best in my chalk bag with some loose chalk. It keeps the loose chalk at the bottom of my bag, so I don't have to worry about it falling out at the gym.

Disappointed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wasn't highly impressed. I spent a while trying to work the chalk out thinking it just needed some encouragement but its just not a very good sock. I had better luck when I refused to pay for a sock and stole my older sister's stockings to make my own!

Keeps Chalk in Bag!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My gym strongly recommends a chalk sock, and I wound up with the re-fillable version here. I get best results with the sock fairly full, but as others have noted, you still get way less chalk than just having it loose in your bag. It's enough for my needs, but I also don't sweat a ton. The chalk also doesn't go all over everywhere when you drop or forget to close your bag, too, so that's a plus.

great for the gym

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I agree with Jane below that you get minimal chalk out of this sock, so i end up adding some loose chalk to the bag as well. Gets my around the gyms rules i guess so I'll give it 4/5. Loose is still the way to go if you can get away with it.

Gotta work it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So I've had chalk balls before and they are great but this one was not my favorite. The sock is not that porous so you get little chalk. The chalk is not that easy to break up. You really have to work the ball to get anything out of it at all. It's good for what it is but I think I'll stick to loose chalk.

Chalk balls have their place

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First I'd get the refillable chalk ball and after you drop a ball in your bag follow it with some loose chalk. I have found that it works best when it is less than half full and the older the better because it will bleed the chalk better when you squeeze it. This is the main reason I like the refillable ones better. When trad climbing, I don't care for having a ball because it makes it harder to dip the back of your hand. These have their place in the gym or face climbing.

GREAT!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used to hate having to use chalk balls because I had a crappy refillable chalk ball that was some other brand and it sucked to refill and always dumped out, between Metolius Super chalk and having the refillable version of this chalk sock you can't go wrong, not nearly as messy as loose chalk which is why the gym I work at makes you use chalk balls instead of loose chalk, the bag opens and closes easily. A good deal, I would suggest going with the refillable compared to the normal one.

refillable is great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought the refillable style of this chalk sock. It has your standard draw cord to open and close. I agree with some of the other reviewers with regards to keeping a little bit of loose chalk in your chalk bag to help get your hands sufficiently coated when needed.

A must

Got this as a gift and i've had it for the past year. I can't stand when people blow chalk everywhere, just a little does the trick. Stick this in your chalk bag and when it's time to go give it a couple squeezes. Another option is have just a little loose chalk in your bag if you like a little extra. Also this product could be replaced by a sock if you're broke, and for that reason I give 4 stars.

Good but Save Some Cash

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the idea and use it all the time!! But I am a huge penny pincher and I use leotards and just cut a section off and use it to do the same exact thing!

Use with Loose Chalk

Chalks socks are great. I don't think they're the best by themselves, and I don't love loose chalk by itself. I keep a full sock in my chalk bag so I have something to grab, and loose chalk to help coat my hands.

This sock only gets 4 stars cause it's not refillable.

They have refillable available, just need to select it and pay the extra $.50.
