Does the job for the gym. Is holding up well to weekly climbing.
OK, but doesn't release enough chalk

I wish this chalk ball released more chalk, which I've found to be true of many other chalk balls as well. Otherwise, it performs as expected.

Keep my hands dry without excessive chalk.
Works as expected

Like Natalie said, there's no substitute for loose chalk, but this is a great option where loose chalk isn't allowed.

This gets just enough chalk on your hands and helps keep the gym air a lot fresher but nothing is better than sticking your hand in bag on loose chalk. If you're going to get one of these, get the refillable one. It'll stretch your dollar.

Great chalk sock! If you are looking for one, don't look any further! And plus, it's refillable! So now you can save money and from throwing away socks.

I love chalk socks, they give me the right amount of chalk on my hand, and of course the refillables get a lot more bang for your buck!
Get it!

i like getting a lot of chalk on my hands and it didn't seem like this got the job down maybe if i give it some small incisions here and there it would work better but it doesn't do the job as expected.
Awesome!

I love that the sock keeps my chalk from flying out of my bag... Keeps my gear a lot cleaner!
Does its job, but nothing beats loose chalk

The chalk sock does what a chalk sock is supposed to do, give you a decent amount of chalk on your hands without the mess...It's essential in gyms where they don't want giant piles of chalk everywhere. However, outdoors or where it's allowed, I would go with loose chalk any day.
Forget the chalk bag. The sock rules

FYI: I'm a beginner. However, when I first went to buy chalk I purchased a chalk bag right off the bat. Everybody had one, etc. Then, almost as an afterthought, I got the refillable chalk-sock too. I now don't even think about the bag; the sock is where it's at. I can use it to powder up nice and good in the beginning, and while I'm climbing it only takes a second to grab it and keep climbing. I don't have to search for the bag opening, dig my hand in, etc.; just fondle it (it's the only word to describe my technique fully) and keep rolling. I suggest hanging the sock off your harness and forgetting about the bag entirely- that's how I roll.
I've got Issues !?

Sooooo. . . this chalk sock is so-so. I usually use loose chalk in the bottom of my chalk bag with a chalk sock for predictable palm coverage, but this thing has a couple issues that keep it from being as reliable as other "refillable" socks I've used.
When I'm climbing for a while my sweaty hand starts to make the chalk ball very sweaty. . . it goes without saying that the sweatier the ball gets the less chalk it spits out onto my palm and the harder you have to work it to get enough coverage. Not to mention having to chalk up more frequently, which just means less climbing.
I have used other chalk socks in the past and I now know I prefer my old polyester sock. The polyester one doesn't hold onto the moisture from my hand and produces a thicker and more consistant coating of chalk with each dip into the ol' bag. The Metolius sock seems to be made out of 99% cotton?, is "refillable", and feels like a regular tube sock. Which is cool. . except the cotton part because it seems to hold onto all moisture and the material gives a bare minimum coating.
I love the chalk though, keeps the friction nice and my hands as dry as I can expect for my hands to be. .

Refillable or Non-Refillable?

Refillable is the way to go, and chalk to refill is super cheap.

I know it's filled with good chalk, but I can't seem to get it to work reliably. I feel like I've got to really work it to get chalked up and if I pull it out of my chalk bag I am enveloped in a cloud of white smoke.
I'm going to empty it and use loose chalk from now on.
Great gym chalk

The refillable bag is great for gyms where loose chalk isn't allowed! The refillable chalk sock comes full too. Buy a big bag and refill it whenever.
Not For Me

It you have super sweaty hands like me when climbing this chalk sock is not for you. It just doesn't release enough chalk onto your hands when climbing. I prefer a large mouth chalk bag with a lot of powdered chalk in it.
Not bad

Its good at the gym so you're not getting chalk everywhere. But I need a little more chalk on my hands without having to fight this ball for it.
