The Metolius Climbing Glove – ¾ Finger provides a snug fit and incredible dexterity to create the ultimate climbing glove. A durable cowhide outer molds comfortably to your hand, while split-cowhide reinforcements on the palm and triple stitching will ensure it lasts for seasons come. The Metolius Climbing Glove has a webbing clip-in loop and a hook and loop wrist closure.
Bottom Line: So the rock's a little cold…get over it!
I think these gloves are the bees knees. I prefer the 3/4 over full length for the reasons listed by others here, but wanted add a little bit more info on what someone can initially expect with these. When buying leather gloves, whether for construction, climbing, or anything else, there are certain undeniable truths:
1. You get what you pay for. If they're crazy cheap, it's usually for a reason. I think these are priced right where they should be.
2. There is a break-in time associated with these. They're not supple calfskin, they're designed to perform and last. It took mine a few days at the crag before they conformed to my hand and fingers. Prior to that, yes, they were a pain to take off. Also, there is a certain lack of sensitivity to be expected when new; I definately took that into account when belaying and rappeling. Now they feel great, like an extension of my hand, but just something to take into account.
3. While the reviews here say otherwise, I would never climb with these on; belay and rappel only for me. But everyones different.
I feel like gloves are a must have, especially when climbing in the warmer months, otherwise that rope gets hot in your hands reeeaaalll fast.
One thing to note is that they did take a while to break in, so don't send them back until you've given them some miles. They do give me a lot more confidence lowering heavier people, rapping fast, and catching lead falls, plus they keep your hands clean. Still nimble enough to tie shoes, tie in, open a powerbar wrapper, whatever. Only drawback is that they are a bit tricky to take off (I use my teeth). Good choice.

Thanks for the review, great help, I just ordered a pair. My Petzl full finger gloves seem to get in the way at times, I'll save them for belaying while toproping.
I loved being told I couldn't climb with my acrylic nails. But then I love doing what I'd not supposed to just because I know I can. I have nimble little fingers and my tips weren't hindered by the lack of depth as the traction provided sufficed.
Got these for belaying a a summer camp in Prescott, AZ. Used them four days a week, for ten weeks, with between 15 and 40 belays each day. The leather is a bit polished but is still holding up good. There is a small hole next to one of the thumbs where the synthetic material starts. Not a huge problem but in future models the leather could cover just a bit more. The gloves do well with the heat(95+) most days. All in all a great glove that I would recommend.
These gloves are one of the most used Christmas presents I've ever gotten. They came from my sister's boyfriend and I would most defiantly not be able to do most of my climbing without them. I was actually told I'd be unable to do some climbs, due to my acrylic nails, but these babies help me stick like Spiderman. Plus, my knuckles aren't raw from shoving them in cracks, no rope burns and no rough hands afterwards. I feel like an infomercial, but these really are a must have. I have my girlie reasons, but they really do provide awesome traction and protection without sacrificing dexterity.
??? It never crossed my mind to used them to keep warm.
Incredibly comfortable for the durability, triple stitching is great, and still leaves you nimble enough for everything, including typing (which I am doing now in the gloves). The only downside was discomfort in the left pinky, nothing that a little sand paper didn't solve. Overall, amazing gloves!
Great dexterity, tight fitted gloves. Im health care professional. Sometimes during mountaineering and hiking trips m faced with accidents which require medical treatment. Its good to wear The Metolius Climbing Glove ¾ Finger to protect my hands from abrasion and some other soft tissues injuries in summer. I never wish it, but Im able to help other team members in medical issues right along.
Manages friction heat nicely without losing grip. Responsive to tightening and loosening. After a about three weeks of nearly daily use, they come off easily and really fit my hands. The large really is large, but snug at first. Have not had to remove them to make or undo knots and connections yet. Like the ends of my fingers out, and the length does not cause any finger binding, like can happen with bike gloves.
Outstanding gloves for all around, temperate weather use. I use these hiking through dense brush, moderate climbing, various lifting, PT, and at the rifle range.
These are great for climbing but not so great for rappelling just because the rope will burn your fingers on the way down if your going fast enough. perfect for crack climbing and belaying! The 2 layers of leather on the palm are super durable and will last a long time!
I like these for use in the summer when it is super hot out here in Utah. I love the added safety it provides my leader. Keeps the mitts free of that rope gunk build up.
The design and function are good. Great durability on the palm for belaying/rappelling. These will break your bank for aid climbing if you do it often. Mine got quite trashed after only a few walls. My $10 goat skin gloves from Wally World have lasted much longer and did the job just as well. They work fine but won't last long and are way too expensive.
I think these gloves are the bees knees. I prefer the 3/4 over full length for the reasons listed by others here, but wanted add a little bit more info more...
