Merrell loaded the Women’s Thermo Arc 6 Waterproof Boot with 200g of PrimaLoft insulation to keep your feet toasty when you hit the trails in January. Polartec Thermo lining provides a soft feel and an extra bit of insulation to help combat temperature down to -25F. Merrell added its Air Cushion Midsole for extra padding and an Ortholite Insulation footbed to support your arch and reduce foot fatigue.

Bottom Line: The choice for below-freezing temps.

Great boot!!

I bought the Merrell Thermo Arc as an in between boot for slush/snow. I usually wear a 6 1/2 but bought a size 7, which I am very happy with. They are very warm and waterproof.

Very Impressed!

By:
December 10, 2010

This is my first time ordering shoes/boots online, and my first-but not last pair of Merrell footwear! I just received my Thermo Arc 6 boots, and put them on with a thick wool sock - perfect fit. Wow! This is a serious boot, with outstanding support and comfort. I love the faux fur trim and purple laces - very feminine. After having read all the reviews, I was a little nervous about the sizing, but I ordered my regular size 8B and they fit like a glove! I still have to wear them in a bit, but I am very happy about my choice, and look forward to getting out there for some hard core winter activity.

Callie, I think they would be much too warm to wear in non-winter conditions.

Great Boots

By:
July 15, 2009

I bought these boots for my move up to Churchill Manitoba. It is still a little chilly up here and the boots have kept my feet very warm and dry from all the still melting snow. Last week my friends dog ran out into Hudsons Bay and got stranded on a small iceburg, I was able to walk out in the ice cold water up to my ankle and get the dog without one drop getting in, all this and they are super comfy.

I'm curious....since these boots started out at the same price for all sizes, why is the 9.5 on sale for $99.96 while the 6.5 is on sale for $74.97? Makes no sense to me!
(Obviously this question is directed to a backcountry.com employee.)

6.5's are smaller, so they take less material... Just kidding, Sorry. I bet if you called in they would honor the sale price for the 9.5's.

Awesome boots!

By:
December 16, 2008

I absolutely love these boots. They keep my feet so warm, that if I'm indoors, I have to take them off or wear different shoes because my feet get a little too warm. Sleek design, not too bulky, but sturdy enough to kick some snow! I love the faux fur around the ankele.

Bonus feature: Boots have small plastic loop at the bottom of the laces to hook onto snow pants for snow shoeing or hiking in the snow.

Only con about the boots is that the laces frequently come untied. Otherwise, these boots are a great investment.

Yes, I live in the mountains of Colorado and bought these boots last year. I snowshoe almost every day in them. They are everything you'd want in a boot for snowshoeing. They're warm, waterproof and easy to walk in. I bought these boots again this year for my daughter. Be sure to wear thin socks or your feet will get cold.

Nice boots!

By:
January 5, 2009

Love these second-skin boots. I wear them all the time. I like to keep them loosely tied and slip them on for convenience (my ankles dont like to be bound anyway), and this has posed the only problem to these boots...the back is not stiff, so sometimes goes in the shoe with my foot. I love these boots, despite this user error problem. They are warm, look great, and feel great! They feel true to size, but next time I am going with a 1/2 size up for any winter boot I get, to fit big comfy socks better.

Thermo Arc 6

By:
January 9, 2011

I bought these boots to use to get around in the winter. They are really good looking boots. They felt tight when I first tried them on however when I put thin socks on they feel really good. They are a stiff boot and feel much like hiking boots I have owned in the past. They have a nice ledge in the back that helps seat my Yaktrax well. They seem to be quite warm. Overall a really nice boot.

I've always dropped down 1/2 size in this brand but in these boots particularly I'd stick with the same size.

Tight in the toe box

By:
March 16, 2010

Nice looking warm boots, but I have a wide toe box and even though I have a pair of merrell siren ventilators, these were just too tight in the toe box. Really nice looking shoe, not sure the laces would have stayed tied.

Trading in for a pair of salomon's. Hopefully they will work.

Snowshoe, Keep Your Tootsies Warm AND Look Fly!

By:
January 19, 2009

So stylish that I told the sales guy "this isn't what I'm looking for, I need something I can SNOWSHOE in". Then I gave them a try. They fit great, are warm, the fur keeps loose snow out when I walk the dog, and the loop lets me clip my gaiters down to snowshoe. Then I jsut keep them on and wear them out on the town (or at least to get a cuppa' joe after ice climbing). You can have fun outdoors, and ... well, they are pretty cute.

Downside is I just broke a lace loop so I"ll be looking for a replacement pair.

Great boots

By:
February 8, 2010

I bought these to use while we lived in Calgary, AB Canada and they were perfect.

I bought a half size up because I knew I would be wearing thick wool socks.

They are super warm. I wore them to watch the Snowboarding Open at night in below freezing temps. I hiked up the side of the half pipe in pretty deep snow and stood outside for about an hour and my feet were never cold.

They are easy to walk in for "snow shoes" but still a little more effort than a regular shoe. They are dry and comfortable and there was no real break in period, I could wear them right away.

Great warm boot for California Girl

By:
January 7, 2010

I got these boots for my wife that moved to Minnesota fresh from California. With sub zero temps I was shooting for something that was "Cute" as she says and keep her feet warm. She loves them! Thanks to Merrell for less complaints about the cold and making my wife happy. This boot rocks!

Just what I was looking for

By:
January 12, 2010

As recommended by some reviewers, I bought a half size larger than normal and I'm glad I did. There's room for heavier socks should I need them. I have been wearing these constantly since they arrived. No break in needed. Warm, good arch support and not clunky. I've stepped in and out of snow piles and my feet have stayed dry. Merrell has another great product in this boot!

Want to love em - but mine must be made backwards

By:
November 10, 2009

These boots try to make me into a nock-kneed overpronator. I thought once I wore them a little, they'd change because they're fairly soft for boots, and also because they came with a tiny foldout touting Merrell's "QForm." They CLAIM QForm is their design to provide women-oriented support and cushioning--softer laterally and firmer medially, thus gently encouraging a neutral gait. Its like they started with a good concept and then did EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE. Mine FORCE me to overpronate. My left ankle bones feel crunched--something I've never felt before.

Thank heavens the cuffs are rounded and soft and short because they tend to dig into my ankles on the outsides, and pull away from the insides (the arch side) of my ankles. Its caused by the weird pronating of the boots. Im sure the gaps will let the snow in nicely.

Otherwise these Thermo Arcs may seem to run small, but after 20 minutes of wear they're magically true to size. and no blisters. They're cute. They grip rock (dont know about snow or ice yet). And if they didnt have the forced overpronation problem to them, theyd have a nice roll from heel to toe. I WANT to like them because they have good features, but my feet would be damaged if I spent much time in them.

my winter work boots

By:
February 20, 2009

I bought these as a boot to wear at work up my ski area. I'm outside all day long, in all kinds of winter conditions. These boots are fantastic! I bought my usual size (8.5) and I have no trouble wearing any sock I want. I replaced the insole with my customs without any problem. If you don't have the need for a custom insole, the provided one is just fine. No leakage detected yet, either. If these ever wear out, I'm going to buy another pair!!

Yes, small in the toe box

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 3, 2010

As another reviewer noted, it is pretty tight in the toebox -- the boot ran pretty much true to size lengthwise, but I returned it because I was concerned that the relatively narrow width would be an issue after a couple of hours on the trail. I am an 8.5-9 with a narrow heel and a semi-wide forefoot.
Otherwise, it was quite comfortable, to the point where I almost kept it anyways...
