Slide into the Merrell Women’s Siren Ventilator Mid GTX XCR Hiking Boot and enjoy full waterproof breathable protection thanks to the boot’s Gore-Tex membrane. When the weather takes a turn for the worst, this boot keeps on truckin’ with its deep-lugged Vibram sole and tough synthetic leather and mesh upper. Injection-molded inserts in the heel and arch support your foot over rugged terrain, and the Air Cushion midsole absorbs excess shock.
Excellent footwear! I hike and trail run in these boots and absolutely love them! Lightweight yet tough: some of the terrain I hike/run on is gravel covered but I am not bothered by what is underfoot; I have also hit the tip of my foot on a tree root or two or exposed rock while at a good speed and have not experienced any discomfort. I like running in the boots (or midsoles) as I can run over tree roots without worrying about breaking or spraining an ankle with the protection this foorwear provides. I have crappy feet and yet shopped all day in these and had no foot pain at the end of the day while I have experienced pain after wearing Asics running shoes all day at an amusement park. The traction on these is another outstanding feature. Just an all around great pair of boots. I intend to backpack in them this spring instead of in a pair of Vasque leather hiking boots I own, I think they'll hold up well and make my hiking experience a little less weary due to their lightweight. I did get 1/2 size bigger than what I usually wear and that has been helpful in keeping my toes from smooshing up in the toe box while descending steep hills or even moderate slopes. Highly recommended!

I have heard some criticism of these boots that they tend to roll due to the shape of the base (i,.e because it is a very round base). I have tried a pair on and they felt good, but concerned this might happen with serious walking. Would like to know what your experience is?
I've had several of these boots because they're light weight and good for warm weather. Yes, they do roll after a bit. In my experience, they can get me through a hot summer, but then I need to chuck them because the roll becomes more apparent and tweaks my knees. I'm hoping to find another shoe that performs as well but lasts longer.
The perfect boot for winter hiking. (light weight, warm and dry). True to size. I typically wear a 7.5 to 8 - so ordered a size 8 and it is just right with medium thickness hiking sock. At first, I was concerned about pressure at the ankles but wore them around the house briefly and that apparently broke them in to dissipate ankle pressure.
I have found that the Merrell Siren line runs pretty true to size. I am a perfect size 8.5 and every item I have from Merrell is a size 8.5 and they are spot on perfect. I make sure though that I only purchase those with laces only so that the width tension can be adjusted to accomodate various types of socks. They do well with either medium or heavy weight hiking socks and have never caused blisters, hot spots or sore toes. I swear by this brand and particular line.
Its impossible to know whether an 8 or a 7.5 will fit you just from "I wear a 7 1/2" Find some merrells locally even if they aren't this exact shoe to see how they fit on your foot. You can use these for snowshoeing. But if you plan a doing a lot I'd recommend a boot without the mesh sides. Even though they have the gore-tex, they will eventually break down a bit and water/wet snow, will get though. Also, if you are going anywhere chilly it would be better to have a boot with some insulation as the only warmth from these boots will be your socks.
No break in period and comfortable all the time. I have done 16 miles a day with a 25 lb pack with no discomfort, something I could never do with my non waterproof Timberlands. So glad I got these. I wear an 8.5 in street shoes and 8.5 fits great with merino wool hiking socks. I just wish they matched my black skirt so I could wear them to the office.
I ordered this boot and a pair of Keen Targhee II boots at the same time. The toe box on this pair of boots is a bit narrow and feels like the front of my foot is being squeezed. I am a meter reader and cannot bear the thought of walking in these for eight hours straight. The Keens are a different story. They have plenty of room where it counts. I will keep these to wear on my days off.
I have the Merrell hiking shoes and loved them so much that I got the water proof boot and they are great!! Didnt have any problems breaking these boots in. very comfortable from the moment I put them on. I also wear them to work and they are just all around great boots!
