Not for Everyone

I purchased these mid-cut boots in the belief that they would fit similar to my other pair of mid-cut Merrells, the Refuge's. They did not. These boots are very minimalist and do not offer a whole lot of support. I am a true 10.5, I ordered at 10.5, and they are slightly too large. My toes are free in the front of the boots, not due to sizing, but because the material of this shoe is mesh-like. The sole of the shoe is completely flat and the lugs are very small. I would not recommend these shoes for hiking as they do not have much traction and do not offer good support.

Having lots of room for the toes is a good thing - it makes your foot more stable. The sizing is probably fine, you're just used to wearing narrow and tight fitting boots. As long as the midfoot and heel fit well, a loose toebox will only help stabilise your foot by letting your toes splay out. Your review is helpful because it makes it clear that this boot is not for someone looking for a traditional hiking boot.

I really like these boots. They're not for snow or heavy use, but they are perfect for light hiking. The wide toe area is great for my feet too.
