Description

Built and tested in one of the least inviting rocky and mountainous regions in North America.

The Merrell Men's Moab GTX XCR Shoe's Gore-Tex gasket and waterproof nubuck leather in the upper keep your feet dry when the trail spends miles criss-crossing creeks, or you get stuck in a freak storm. Gore-Tex XCR also offers excellent breathability that combines with mesh in the Moab GTX XCR’s uppers and tongue to enhance ventilation, which you’ll prostrate yourself in thanks for when the mercury rises beyond civilized temperatures. Merrell added a rubber toe bumper, heel counter, and Vibram’s Multi-Sport Plus outsole to provide the protection, support and traction you need to remain as agile as an ocelot on the hunt.

Birthday gift

I gave this shoe as a birthday gift and received feedback saying that it is the most comfortable shoe they ever wore.

What is the maximum pack weight you can carry and these shoes remain stable?
Thanks,

great shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have worn these heavily on and off trail for two+ years.. only one problem
the sides began to wear out and I believe something poked through the Gore Tex and thus became non waterproof. found this out in the snow..

great shoe

Wear a 13w in most athletic/tennis shoes and 12w in loafers, etc. So, I find myself in between sizes in looking to buy the Moab GTX XCR. Would you size up to a 13w or stay with a 12w? In my case I'm not sure what "true to size" really means. Probably a 12.5w which doesn't exist. Even though I understand all boots fit different feet differently, just looking for a little general guidance. Thanks guys.

Hi Jim, if you're mainly buying these shoes for hiking and outdoor recreational activities, I would say go for the size 13. For me, I usually like to have a mid-weight sock to accompany such events and going with the upper size would fill the shoe better than if it was too tight.

Worth the money

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Just got back from a two day 20 mile hike at Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. Got these shoes 2 weeks before hand and did not really have time to break them in. Shoes were great. Very impressed how well they gripped hiking up steep rock.

Favorite lightweight hikers

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These are awesome shoes. Recently just took them out to summit Squaw peak in the wasatch, and they performed beautifully. Provide lots of traction and support. Midsole is stiff enough not to feel all the rocks on the trail poking into your feet. Plus the gore tex adds piece of mind that if it happens to turn wet, your feet won't be. Great shoe, well done yet again merrell.

Super user

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Bought some 10.5, true to size. Good rugged shoe; however, the gortex keeps this shoe from breathing. During summer months your feet will suffer an bake in these shoes. During winter trips my feet would sweat and cold snow/air would freeze the sweat trapped inside my shoes...equals cold frozen feet. I have moved on to trail runners and am much more comfortable.

Best dam shoes

If I needed one pair of shoes to get through life these would be it. The Goretex never let me down, and I only needed a new pair after daily use 12 months later.

True to its name

I just put about 30 miles in these in the Needles District outside of Moab and they did great. These shoes give you great grip on slickrock even if it has a light coating of sand or water. I went through a lot of sandy washes and didn't get any sand in the shoes, a problem I've had with other hiking shoes. I didn't get to test the waterproofing though.

So far so good

These shoes were super comfortable when I tried them on in the store. When I actually started walking in them there's an uncomfortable crease on the top where my foot bends. I'm hoping that it will go away when I break them in more. I typically wear a size 9 and the 9.5 fit me better than the 9. I haven't had an opportunity to test out the waterproof aspect yet.

Longevity

Today is March 2nd 2013. Looking back at my order history, I bought these shoes on December 20, 2010.

Just over 2 years from my everyday sneaker.
Yeap. Just ordered a replacement pair. Five Stars.

Price has increased $10 over 2 years.

Great pair of shoes

I've owned a pair of these Merrell/Moab GTX shoes now for 2 years. Wear them almost every day. I can't seem to wear them out. They fit me great right from the start and are very comfortable around town or in the woods. Built very well and maybe they last too long. I may just get tired of wearing these for so such a long time and look for another pair to break up the monotony.

Very comfortable and durable for any terrain. You can hit the trails all day and hit the streets at night with no sweat, stink, or discomfort.

love, Love, LOVE!

I LOVE these shoes! Best I've ever owned. I've had them for about 7 months now and feel like I've got a good understanding of them.

I only use these for hiking. They have incredible grip. I always feel firm inside and out of the shoe. Comfort and support are top-notch and break-in time wasn't too bad. I never did get any blisters during the break-in period. They are wearing extremely well with no defects whatsover.

after 2 years.....

these shoes are falling apart... riddled with holes... my feet are wet...they have no grip because the soles are totally worn out and starting to peel off....... after 2 years of year'round abuse. 2 years! these are undoubtably the best shoes i've ever owned. I'm sad to see them go. after trail running every season in them, countless hikes, wearing them everyday to work, and putting my feet up at the bar as I order a drink....these shoes have done it all.... and survived. I typically burn through shoes within 7 months. Not these ones (and not their sibling..the mid-tops..but thats for another time). These shoes are my favorite. nice and grippy, waterproof, and breathable enough for the murky new england july and august. Enjoy! I'm off to find another pair.

They take lots of abuse

I'm getting ready to order another pair, but I have had my current MOAB's for 2+ years. I wore these shoes (dark chocolate) every day for over a year, work, school, sometimes to run in. These shoes took massive abuse at work (in a granite fabrication shop) until the sides busted out. I would stand in 1-3 inches of water all day and my feet would remain bone dry, I would also wear them in the snow, hiking, biking, you name it. I ended up "repairing" the busted out sides (I tore them on scraps of granite counter top in our scrap pile) with fishing line and these suckers are back to nearly water proof. They currently get used for biking, hiking and anything where my shoes are gonna get dirty or muddy. Trust me, you can't go wrong with these, and they even look nice enough to wear to a job with business a casual dress code (if you keep them nice looking).

First Impressions

So I have had these shoes for about two weeks. I can't say that I have broken them in all of the way yet. First things I have noticed are the insole is very comfortable. Its a spongy kind of material. These fit very true to size and takes the guesswork out of trying to size without trying them on. My first few days of walking in these have produced some blisters but only on one foot. I'm hoping as they break in this gets better. I have high hopes for these and I think they will deliver.

Yes it appears to be the Beluga color of the Moab GTX XCR.

Everyday Warrior

I wore these shoes for over a year for everything from day to day use to hiking to trail running. The durability was great and I loved that they kept my feet dry without sweating. I would still be wearing them but the sole at the heal work through.

They fit true to size and width.

The problem is I can't find the color I had in my size anywhere.
