Awesome shoes

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

Love these shoes! The trails I run on are pretty smooth, so I can't vouch for how they would perform on rocks and whatnot, but they are perfect for smooth(er) trails. The low-profile midsole is fantastic for the natural running style. They are comfortable, breathe well, and provide just the right amount of support while allowing your foot to feel like it's in a natural position. I have always run in Nikes before, and when I ran in these for the first time I was like, "Wow, I had no idea running could feel this good!" Loved them so much I ordered another pair.

Almost perfect!

1- PROS: Super lightweight and breathable, it feels like I got nothing on. It helps me go faster since I don't have to carry the extra weight on my feet. 2- NO MORE KNEE PAIN. Need I say more? CON: If terrain has lots of sand, it'll get through the mesh for sure, but that's expected. Just get gaiters to minimize that.

Love them!

super light, nice support, can still feel whats going on under your feet, roomy at the toes. I love these shoes! The colour looks great too, I got the Island green, even better then the pic. I thought it felt a bit large when I first put them on but am glad I didn't swap for the half size down as once moving in them they feel perfect. I do have wideish feet tho.

From nothing to barefoot trail

Love these shoes!

When I got these shoes I was using a pair of Merrell hiking shoes (not boots) and was finding that I love running back down the trails I hiked up each morning, and when I saw Merrell come out with some "barefoot" trail running shoes, I knew I just had to try them.

I normally wear an 8.5 to 9, my Merrell hiking shoes are 9, and I have a pair of Merrell knee high boots that are actually 9.5. I know my foot measurement, and so ordered an 8 with these shoes and they fit perfectly. I love how tightening certain sections of the laces help to really make the shoe fit like a glove.

The tread is amazing. The trails I hit every morning now are sometimes dry dirt, to muddy, to large slabs of rock, to small gravel, to small gravel on large slabs of rock, and I'm usually hopping over other rocks and tree roots, and I just feel so safe with these shoes, and can just run.

My only complaint is I have hit a small rock or two right in the middle of the heel, right between two of the oval knobs, and it stabs the heel just perfectly.

I will definitely buy this shoe again, and will definitely be excited if Merrell can move the knobs on the heel around a bit to make it a little bit thicker right at the middle of your heel.

Seems to be great!

I haven't put a lot of miles on these shoes yet but my initial impression is great! I was in love with the Keen A86 and ran through them last year. Having enjoyed Merrell for my hiking boots I thought I would try this. They are spot on for size. I am a 8.5 and it fit perfectly. It has a wide toe box so you are not cramped running down hill. It has a bit more cushion than I usually go for but over all it is a really comfortable shoe. The lugs provide great grip on the trail. My only complain about the A86 was that the sole constantly slipped out on my longer runs. I have yet to have this problem in the Merrells!

Go for the gravel!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The tread of the Mix Master makes for excellent trail use. The oval lugs really keep you moving over the uneven loose surfaces, and the heel is well cushioned if you're new to barefoot running. I have a narrow foot and found these to be a bit wide through out especially in the toe box. Not my favorite, but definitely worth trying out!
