Difficult to get on, wonderful on

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5

Because these shoe boots don't have traditional laces and are held on your feet by somewhat stretchy material where the tongue would be they are quite hard to get on your feet. My feet are about average width/volume, 11.5. Once you get you feet in them though they feel like warm puppies. They are about the most comfortable shoe I have ever had. Really, Warm Puppies. The sole is a little soft so they are not heavy hiking type boots but around home or town or short hikes they are great. The biggest problem is getting them on. It does get a little easier as they break in or you figure out how to put them on.

    Cool hiking shoes

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These were a gift so I have little info on them yet. I also bought myself a pair and have not yet worn them out. But I've had other Merrell shoes and loved them. Durable with aggressive tread soles.

    Great hiking and work shoe.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my second pair of these shoes, and I have been happy with both pair. The main use for these is day to day wear in the warehouse, they provide support and comfort when spending a lot of time on concrete. I have also found them to work very well for hikes and just beating around town. Added bonus, they are conducive to my flat pedals, and the venting is nice on longer rides. It is likely I will buy another pair of these down the line.
I range in the 8.5 or 9 with most shoes, in these and other Merrells I go with a 9.

    My second pair

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5

I originally bought a pair of these 8 years ago. I still wear them but they are reserved for yard work now. Liked them so much I recently bought a second pair. The new ones are built a little different. They fit higher on the ankle and the fit around the ankle is a little tighter. I've found that a good shoe horn solves all the problems with getting them on. I adjusted my laces once and never touch them again and the shoe fits like a glove every time I slip them on. They are very comfortable. I hope they last as long as the original pair did.

    laces of fury

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 7

It was hard to pick a star rating when I havent had them long enough to tell how they hold up and they generally seem like they could be very good. But the laces are ruining the whole expensive shoe up for me (expensive for my life, shopping around backcountrys price was v good & shipping impresisvely fast, so no slight there). I have a narrow foot and always have to pull normal laces really tight, but these are so long they reach past the front of the shoe even when tucked into the rest of the laces and are *not adjustable.* It seems like they should be adjustable but the plastic piece where you tighten them is either broken on both sides or not actually supposed to be moved ever. (It looks like it should move, but even when not wearing them and trying with tools, it is basically 'locked'). I've manged to get it to move slightly a couple times in the last week+ but it took long, sustained effort and peeled back 2 of my fingernails. The rest of the time, I cant loosen the laces so it takes awhile to get my foot in the shoe and I end up angry and out of breathe and I cant imagine the shoe, epsecially the loop on the back, holding up to all that pulling and shoving for very long. Sitting in traffic might be more fun but theres a reason I don't drive.
So now, after I've gotten them off or on, I have literally been trying to avoid needing to put them on/off again. It really stinks. For all I know it could be a great shoe.

    My go to hiking shoe

The durability of these shoes is unparalleled. I've owned 2 pairs in the last 6 years, each with hundreds of miles on them. The traction is great. Extremely comfortable to wear on and off the trail. The only reason these are not 5 stars is the narrow opening on top. If you have a wide foot , these may be difficult to slide on and off. Also, the narrow opening can lead to discomfort if the wearer is wearing thin or no show socks. Still a great boot that will take so much abuse.

    Outstanding comfort IF

Bought these as a gift. We both love the look and shape however there are no laces so the gift recipient could not get his foot inside the shoe without struggling because the opening was too narrow with no way to expand it. Very sad to return these. Got the Grassbow Air in place of these which are not near as comfy or impressive but they have the required laces. It is a shame. If these had laces, they would be perfect in every way.
