If you considering hiking your main sport.
The Merrell Men's Capra Sport Hiking Shoe encourages speedy ascents and descents on rugged, steep trails. Its Stratafuse exoskeleton upper fuses breathable mesh to the foot cage for extreme lightness that's still durable. M-Select Fresh odor control keeps the shoe fresh after long-and-speedy adventures.
Merrell's UniFly midsole provides impact cushioning where you need it most while still allowing for a close connection to the trail. This shoe includes a removable Ace footbed for additional cush, a nylon arch shank for stability, and Merrell's air cushion at the heel to ensure a comfy descent. The Capra Sport also has a TrailProtect Pad at the toe for rock protection, and reliable Vibram rubber uses a MegaGrip design that lives up to its name.

Good shoe, careful on the sizing
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
This is a good shoe. In comparison to the Moab Ventilators, it has better traction (improved outsole), good ventilation, very good stability. I experienced no fears of ankle roll. Grip while scrambling on rocks was better than the Moab's - enjoyable. They were a comfortable shoe during the long and short hikes. I think the midsole is thinner than the Moab. Recommend a good foot bed (I like Spenco).
Sizing is very different for a Merrell. All athletic shoes (except maybe mountaineering boots) are sized about a half size short. I have worn Merrell for many years. I wear a 10.5, but purchase an 11 in my Merrells. I can wear 10.5 for short fast hikes, but I need thin socks and a thin footbed.
Not so with these. These were definitely a true 10.5 - at least. They may even be a bit more full than a true 10.5. The identification says 44.5 mm, and 10.5 U.S. Most 10.5's are not 44.5. I was able to use my heavy duty Spenco footbed and my favorite Samrtwool medium socks. They are sized bigger than other Merrells. But that is a good thing.
Does this come with a Gore-tex lining?
No, this is not the Gore-Tex version. The GTX version is item number MER004H
