    Superlight for speedy hiking.

The Merrell Men's Capra Mid Sport GTX Hiking Boot encourages speedy ascents on long trails with or without a big backpack on. Gore-Tex provides waterproof, breathable protection so you can get out in any condition, and the Stratafuse exoskeleton upper fuses the breathable mesh upper with durable synthetic overlays in an ultralight design for gram-counting minimalists. M-Select Fresh keeps odors at bay after long treks, and the bellows tongue keeps debris out.

Underfoot, Merrell equipped the Capra Mid Sport with a Unifly midsole for a surprising amount of impact absorption. Merrell's Air Cushion adds long-lasting cush to the heel, and the removable EVA footbed gives you more comfort when you want it. The TrailProtect Pad adds stability on rugged terrain, and the molded nylon arch shank ensures support on the long days. Vibram's reliable rubber uses a MegaGrip design that lives up to its name.

    Awesome hiking boots

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

These are the most comfortable and stable pair of hiking boots I've owned. What I like most about them is how durable yet light weight they are. I hiked rim-rim-rim ( 42 miles) in the Grand Canyon with these boots and my feet were happy the entire time. They provided great traction on all terrain, even icy patches on the trail. They have great stability in the ankle great cushion as well. The boots are also breathable so my feet never felt like they were getting swampy. I thought the boot fit true to size and was even accommodating to my extra wide foot. I would highly recommend these boots for any moderate to serious hiker.

    Very pleasantly surprised!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5

I have to say that I did not expect these shoes/boots to be as good as they are. They seem to be built with quality, excellent fit and significantly lighter than my old favorites.
They do indeed seem to fit very true to size. Having hiked only 3-4 times (12-15 miles total) in them, they appear to stretch a bit in the width so they accommodate my D-E width feet better after a few miles in them. All aspects of the fit seem to break in rapidly. I'm quite sure they will not grow any more than necessary to adjust to my feet.
Their outsole grip is outstanding like a great approach shoe. The height is excellent for keeping sand and grasses out of the boots and provides an extra element of support that is also surprising.
Like most footwear these days, the stock insoles are nearly worthless. I replaced them with Superfeet after the first hike, yielding much better support and improved heel fit for me.
In short, I like them well enough to take them on my upcoming hike up Humboldt Peak in The Sangres. Three days of backpacking and peak bagging should produce either a loving response or hatred. I'm guessing I'm gonna love 'em.

    Lightweight and comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Although I prefer to backpack in trail runners, my current job requires mid-height boots when leading trips. I picked these up because I wanted something lightweight and comfortable, and I was not disappointed. They weigh only a little bit more than waterproof hiking shoes, and are ridiculously comfortable (I find myself keeping them on instead of changing to camp shoes at the end of the day). My first time taking them out I did 30 miles, and had zero foot problems. They do fit slightly wide, so be aware.
