As much as we all might pine for a set of fancy carbon hoops for our all-mountain trail rig, we sometimes have to come back down to earth and listen to our wallets. Luckily for us, Mercury Wheels has the X3 Enduro 27.5in Wheelset, which lives up to the company namesake's penchant for swiftness over any terrain. Sometimes, all it takes to rejuvenate our time on the trails is a set of bombproof alloy wheels that are just a blast to ride.
The X3 Enduro rims are designed for all-mountain riding and built from lightweight, stiff aluminum that lives up to the trail-furniture-be-damned attitude that their efficient ride quality inspires. Their 29mm internal rim width provides an ample platform to run your beefy, trail shredding knobby of choice at low pressures for grippy cornering and fast rolling speed. With 28 two-cross laced spokes per wheel, this wheelset also delivers lateral stiffness for snappy handling without crossing over into too-stiff, squirrely territory for a boost of confidence no matter the trail.
Mercury's six-bolt rear hub is convertible for use with either 135 or 142mm axles, so they're compatible with most current frames. The fact that they're built for 27.5in tires means they're somewhat future-proof, as the superior angle of attack and nimble handling of the greater than/less than tire size makes a strong argument for its off-road hegemony going forward.
The Mercury Wheels X3 Enduro 27.5in Wheelset comes with a 15mm front and 12 x 142mm rear thru-axle combination. A separately sold conversion kit allows compatibility with 135mm rear axle widths.

The X3 Enduro wheels are light for their mass and apparent strength. It was an easy tubeless setup with a little tape and sealant. I have six rides on one set and two rides on a second set. They are relatively stiff and don't seem to have any more lateral flex than other popular brand alloy wheels I have ridden.
The hub is a 4 pawl design that appears robust. It is easy to swap the driver body and maintenance should be relatively simple for the DIY crowd. I cannot give a long term report yet; however, initial quality is excellent.

I have four sets of Mercury Wheels. Two sets of 29er X3 Enduro and two sets of 27.5 Enduro. I am using the 27.5 to mount 27.5 WTB Ranger 2.8 tires on them. Tires mount easily and rims are good. Bearings seems to be a little rough in the beginning, but smooth out later. Could be the grease loosening up over time. For the price and specs of the wheels you can't go wrong when compared to spending over $700-$2000 to get similar or better spec wheels.
Only issue is packaging from Mercury on the 27.5. For some reason the 29ers are package better. I have ordered these 27.5 wheelsets from a couple of retail shops and had to return a number of them because of damages. Yes these are $300 wheels, but a .50 piece of cardboard to divide the wheels could save money in returns and time to get another set of wheels.

Nice n wide
The highlight of these wheels is the width of the rim. With the 29mm internal width these help get tires to sit with a nice wide profile and increase the performance of the tires allowing you to run a slightly lower pressure and increase your grip. More rubber down is just better. The Hubs aren't anything special, but you're buying a sub $1000 wheels set so you can't expect perfection all the way around. So far the hubs have performed adequately and the maintenance appears to be pretty standard. I'd recommend these to others looking to get performance on a budget.
