Yes, the proprietary battery is replaceable by the user (part# 85-763-020 or 85-763-040). It needs to be replaced every five years or after deployment. The cost is about $175 on average. This model will work globally, needs to be registered in the US with the NOAA every 2 years (free), and it's waterproof to about 10 meters for up to 20 minutes, but it doesn't float.

I've got 1st hand experience with this model. Bottom line, it works, even in the trees. Small, lightweight, no subscription needed, and half the cost of an ACR.
