Description

Clean the rock garden, nail the drop, then arabesque.

The Mavic Red Rock Shorts have a great name. It reminds us of sweeping views into the fossilized sand dunes we've seen out west. The thought of riding in the desert again is something that makes us want to get some vacation days scheduled for the fall. We'd want clothing that offered abrasion protection as well as freedom of movement.

Mavic has both of those characteristics covered with the Red Rock Shorts. Their Trail Tech fabric is made of a 100% polyamide. Some folks call it nylon, and it provides great abrasion protection for the inevitable carnage on the trail. Their Trail Tech ST fabric is made of 85% polyester and 15% spandex and its weave allows the shorts some stretch so no matter your riding style, you will not be hindered by them. The Red Rock Shorts have a removable liner short that features their Ergo 2D insert. It has two different densities and thicknesses of padding for comfort. The Shell features two zippered cargo pockets on the side of each thigh. There is room enough for a phone, keys, and gels plus some small trash off the trail for those days you feel like paying back to mother nature.

The Red Rock Shorts have a side seam length of 22" and an inseam of 14". They are cut for performance -- not too tight, but not loose and baggy. They'll work as great as they look on the bike. They are available in Black in sizes S - XXL.

Nice shorts, nice liner, but the shorts ran about a size larger that my usual size. I'm 6'0", about 170-175 lbs. (depending on amount of, or lack of, riding) and ordered a Large but would need a Medium for the shell. The liner felt great, better than most combination MTB shorts, but not sure how well the liner would fit if I ordered the Medium shorts. I think I'll just stick with wearing my beat up road shorts and buy MTB shorts that fit (yeah, part time roadie but don't hold that against me!).
