Ksyrium SLR Wheel System

Mavic’s Ksyrium line, while varying in pronunciation, has never varied in quality. From the entry-level Kysriums, right up to the SLR model seen here, they perform remarkably well in nearly all conditions and are bested only by the most aerodynamic wheels in less-windy days. This year’s SLRs feature something new, a little mash-up of a traditional Kysrium and Mavic’s R-Sys wheels. The front wheel gets 18 Zicral spokes, like you’ve seen in countless Mavic wheels, but the rear gets Zicral on the drive side, and Mavic’s carbon fiber Tracomp spokes on the non-drive side. This combo provides unsurpassed power transfer, while still allowing just a bit of give when your wheel impacts something unexpectedly.

The SLR’s rims have also been drilled out, in classic Mavic style, to reduce the amount of material at the rim, and thus the rotating inertia. At the brake track, you’ll find Mavic’s Exalith treatment, which offers superlative stopping performance in even wet or snowy weather. A recent Mavic development is the addition of tires to their wheelsets. Co-developed with Hutchinson, the GripLink front tire and PowerLink rear tire are designed to take the wheels to the peak of their potential.
