Description

The standard.

Mavic's Ksyrium series of wheels has captured the hearts and minds of cyclists worldwide. Especially at the high end of the Ksyrium range, you get extreme performance at a moderate price. The Ksyrium SL Wheelset is built with technical advantages such as bladed Zicral alloy spokes for an unbeatable combination of aerodynamics, durability, and lightness. You get Mavic's UB Control and SUP rim treatments, which means you'll get consistent, reliable day-in/day-out performance thanks to their perfectly machined braking surface and welded/machined rims. Also, the Ksyrium SL Wheels get Mavic's ISM milling of the rim between spokes to minimize rim weight.

The front rim on the Ksyrium SL Wheelset is only 22mm deep, essentially the same depth as an Open Pro rim. This makes it lighter, and it has the incidental advantage of being a more stable wheel in cross winds and at high speeds on descents (after all, if you're using these in the mountains, you have to go down, too!) The rear rim depth on the Ksyrium SL is 25mm. The reasoning behind this is that it gives the rear wheel added rigidity and resistance to flex, which according to Mavic gives it superior power transfer. Note the oversized hubs, they use carbon fiber shells along with aluminum flanges, explicitly designed to shave a few extra grams from the total weight of the wheels. These wheels come with Mavic's QRM+ bearings -- they're double-sealed for longevity, and each hub allows for micro-fine preload adjustment for precise bearing.

The Ksyrium SL Wheelset is light enough for race day, yet tough enough for year-round training. The front wheel has 18 radially laced spokes, and the rear wheel ups that number to 20, with Mavic's Isopulse spoking pattern to provide optimum power transfer. They include a Zicral spoke-specific wheel magnet, a truing wrench and bearing adjustment tool. They're available with either a Campagnolo-specific or Shimano/SRAM-specific freehub body.

This wheelset is part of Mavic's MP3 extended warranty program. The acronym stands for Mavic Product Protection Plan, and it provides you with two years of almost unlimited no-fault protection from Mavic. More details can be found on the MP3 website. Please note that MP3 coverage must be purchased within 5 days of the date that you receive your wheels. You'll get an email from us the day after your online wheel purchase, containing the retailer and product codes that you'll need to register your wheels on the Mavic MP3 site. You'll also need the serial numbers that you'll find on your wheels. The cost for this coverage is approximately 8% of the retail cost of the wheels.

  • Isopulse lacing (radial drive side and 2X non-drive side) provides balanced and precise power transfer
  • Zicral bladed alloy spokes provide aerodynamic advantage without sacrificing strength and stiffness
  • Asymmetric rear rim adds stiffness and strength
  • Skewers, spoke wrench, spoke holder, bearing adjustment tool, and computer magnet included

These are a great set of Wheel, light, strong and well-priced. First ride was eventful and completely blew a corner and went through 50 feet of gravel, wheels stayed straight and true. All tires have mounted up nicely and the free hub engagement is solid. I would recommend these wheels.

The Ksyrium SL is made in France. The wheelset is $999 so it should be worth looking at for you.
