Premium padding and support for endurance riders.

Pushing yourself to the brink of exhaustion not only puts a strain on tender sit bones, but it also leads to quickly deteriorating strength across over-worked muscle groups. Keeping you riding strong past the century mark, the Mavic Men's Ksyrium Pro Bib Shorts offer high levels of muscle support and dual-density cushioning for grueling endurance efforts. A testament to their truly comfortable nature, these bibs graced endurance rider Mike Cotty as he rode from Venice, Italy to Chamonix, France without stopping, some 1000 kilometers and 21,250 vertical meters later. He expected to change bib shorts two or three times, instead riding a single pair throughout the entire affair.

Ergonomically shaped, these contoured bib shorts drastically reduce chafing as you crank out mile after mile. Going one step further for long-distance comfort, smooth flatlock seams won't scratch or irritate sensitive areas. Throughout the body of these bib shorts, Skin Matrix ST fabric combines exceptional moisture management with solid muscle support. Ultimately, this fabric prevents you from soaking in perspiration and subsequently overheating through daunting uphill climbs and oppressively warm weather. Open mesh bibs promote even better ventilation while providing ample support during rapid pedaling. Additionally, lightweight Skin Power fabric enhances muscle support and recovery when you're on the brink of exhaustion.

Perhaps the most impressive feature, the Ergo 3D Pro Endurance chamois features dual-density Ortholite memory foam for cloud-nine cushioning on distance rides. This foam strategically supports the perineum and ischal areas, increasing shock absorption by 20% compared to standard inserts. The Ortholite foam returns to its original shape as soon as pressure is relieved, meaning it's able to adjust to different riding positions as you climb, descend and sprint out of the saddle. Finishing off these bib shorts, Ergo Grip Race leg openings remain firmly in place with their highly elastic fabric and internal silicone print.

    Great short, great chamios

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

As a bigger guy, I really appreciate the thicker chamois in the larger sizes (l, XL, XXL). I would agree with the other review that the chamois position lends itself better to a less aggressive fit on the bike, but still felt fine tucked in for long descents. Full disclosure...I'm the product guy for Mavic USA, but these are my go to bib shorts!

Like the cut. The chamois is ok.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

There's a lot to like about these bibs. The cut is comfortable when in the riding position and the straps are soft, breathable, and don't twist up as easily as Castelli straps do. It's also low enough in the front not to restrict your diaphragm and to make breaks a little easier. Sizing is mostly true to size for me. I wouldn't mind if there were a little more compression, but it's adequate. For reference I have a 34" waist and the medium fit me fine. I tried a large too, and would probably go for those if I wanted a more relaxed fit.

The chamois is something that does OK, but not my favorite. I was interested to see how memory foam does for absorbing pressure on long rides and I'm finding I don't love it. The chamois has two higher spots for the sit bones but it's almost cut like it has straight edges (as if cut with a cookie cutter) rather than tapering them down for multiple thicknesses like so many other shorts do today. Consequently, they don't always sit perfectly as you move around on the saddle. Additionally, it has a deep center channel that has minimal padding. This becomes a problem for me because I move around along the entire length of my saddle and when I sit up front, it's like there's almost no padding there. The fact that I ride in a fairly aggressive position also means the chamois sits too far back for my preference.

If you're one of those people that sits more upright and don't move around much on the saddle you may enjoy these. For me, they're just ok.
