When Mavic calls a wheelset entry-level, you can take that to mean high value AND high quality. The Crossride Disc 29er Wheelset was designed in conjunction with pro riders from Orbea, Cannondale, and Luna, so these wheels aren’t any kind of bargain-basement junk—they were developed by the pros.

Mavic’s Crossride 29-inch wheels were designed with several important design innovations to ensure performance. The first is Mavic’s Self Lock spoke system. Specially shaped spoke ends ensure that the nipple can’t loosen itself, so the wheels stay in true longer. To ensure durability, Mavic also used its H2 hammer-hardened rims that are strengthened where the spokes experience the most stress.

Mavic included innovations away from the rim, as well. The hub uses Mavic’s top-shelf QRM cartridge bearing that feature a protective double-seal and C3 internal clearance to nearly eliminate bearing play. The freehub is Mavic’s FTS-X with strengthened pawls, self-locking axle screws, and friction torque reducing seals.

The Crossride wheelset is also part of Mavic’s MP3 extended warranty program. This warranty provides you with two years of almost unlimited no-fault protection from Mavic. Please note that MP3 coverage must be purchased within 5 days of the date you receive your wheels.

  • Self Lock spoke system

Can I mate these with my 2.5" Maxis Minions, or are these rims too narrow? Thanks!

Great UpGrade Wheels for Cheap

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The best way to make a bike from Good to Great is to upgrade the wheels, I put the Cross Ride on my Townie and it really makes for a great ride. The Light weight and stiffness of these wheels makes the bike roll with ease. Most people don't realize how much better a nice set of wheels improves their ride quality.

For the set I just received, the front hub is a 15mm thru axle (no adapter for 9mm QR). Also, backcountry does not carry the necessary adapters.

The rear hub is a 12mm thru axle but does include adapters for quick release and the appropriate skewer.

So "out of the box" these wheels can be run with 15mm front axle only, rear can be 9mm QR or 12mm TA.

Typically the wheels come with all the adapters for any set up

I have a 2014 Giant Trance X 29er 1. From Giant, it has:

Hubs: Giant Performance Tracker Off Road, sealed, [F] 15mm axle, [R] 135x5mm QR

Will these wheels (at the $179.40 price point) work?

Thanks!

Responded on

The option at that price point comes stock with a 9mm quick release front hub configuration and for your bike you would need a 15mm that would require the Mavic 15mm Front Hub Adapter (MAV0440).

Great Value

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these wheels mainly for the price, I have Easton EA90XC on my 26" bike but didn't want to spend that kind of money on my first 29er. Damn!, these wheels seem lighter than the Eastons and they roll forever. Would have been a steal at the regular price. I highly recommend these for anyone doing light to medium trail riding, they'd probably handle more though. GREAT DEAL BackCountry... Thank you!

Ride On,
Wes

This wheelset is a great value for the money. I've used it out a couple times now. Climbs quick. Light in the rims. Cushy all around.
