Let 'em loose.
There's only one way you're going to get to see all of Park City, UT's hundreds of miles of perfect XC trails in a single long weekend: go really, really, really fast. All the energy gels, protein powders, and recovery drinks in the world will only speed you up so much, so to really max out your experience you're going to need something explosively speedy like the Mavic Crossmax SL Pro LTD 29 WTS Wheelset. It's a mouthful, to be sure, but tying your tongue in knots is a small price to pay for the weight savings of Mavic's Inter Spoke Milling 4 Dimensions (ISM 4D) process, which strategically removes excess Maxtal aluminum in key areas, slimming down the rim without compromising durability. The upshot? Less rotational mass, easier acceleration, and faster riding.
All the weight loss in the world is for naught if the hub is slow to engage, but Mavic's Instant Transfer 4 (ITS-4) rear hub ensures that the Crossmax responds as soon as you put your feet to the pedals. Four pawls work in pairs, engaging two at a time at different points in the freehub's rotation, so you never have to suffer through more than 7.5 degrees of play. Quicker accelerations, faster climbs, and less wheel spin result, making powering over blocky benches and up loose slopes as close to a breeze as they're ever going to be. On the flats and descents, adjustable sealed cartridge bearings keep your wheels spinning friction free.
Excessive wheel flex can limit the ITS-4's efficiency, but the Isopulse spoke design combines different lacing patterns on the drive and non-drive sides of the wheel, maintaining even spoke tension for killer stiffness and balance. The spokes themselves are made of Zicral, an aluminum alloy with a top-shelf strength-to-weight ratio. Wrapped around the rims, Mavic's UST tubeless ready Crossmax Pulse tires provide fast-rolling grip with dual-compound rubber that boasts a buttery smooth 127 TPI, letting you roll right over rocks and bite into uneven corners with more confidence and quickness than you thought was possible on a 2.10in 29er.

Solid Wheel set!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
If you're looking to upgrade your trail rig you should start where the bike hits the dirt... the wheels. These wheels are super solid and for a super deal. I'm 200 lbs and have taken them down some gnarly sections. Snapy responsiveness and lightweight makes you feel like you're riding on a set made from carbon fiber.
