The Maui Jim® Kapalua is the pinnacle of Maui Jim's ultra-light sport designs. The Kapalua is part of the Maui Jim Titanium Sport line of sunglasses. Fashioned from a strong, flexible beta-titanium alloy and combined with impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses, the Kapaluas weigh a mere eleven grams. Maui Jim's exclusive CLEARSHELL® coating resists scratches and scuffs, and like all Jims®, PolarizedPlus® Technology eliminates glare and UV rays. A polarized lens' primary function is to reduce glare—that is, light reflected from a flat surface which greatly diminishes color and contrast. A body of water, a windshield, and even an asphalt road are all notorious producers of polarized light. Polarized lenses are most useful when trying to see through these reflecting surfaces, like when fishing, boating, or driving. Maui Jim sunglasses feature one of the most effective polarized lenses on the market. They are lightweight, tough, and very stylish.

Bottom Line: Style for Hollywood; sport for the dedicated outdoor freak.

I absolutely love this Pair of Jim's. I have owned a few pair in pair in the past but this one seems to be my favorite. I love the weight and they stick to your face like a fly sticks to fly paper. The medium was just the perfect size for my face. I think my face and head are pretty normal size. Any smaller would have been to small for my face. I have included a pic and I hope that helps get you the right size.

These are the best

I'm one of those guys who has 15 pairs of sunglasses. I must say, these are the best. I honestly forget I have them on because they are so light. I'm going to buy another pair in another color to keep in my car.

Anonymous is correct... Kaanapali is the largest, Kapalua is in the middle, and Wailea is the smallest.

There are 3 sizes of the Titanium Sports. This pair (the Kapalua) is the medium size. You will want to get the Kaanapali, which is the largest. There is actually 3 lens colors to choose from: Grey, HCL Bronze and Rose. BTW, the Wailea is the smallest size Titanium Sport.

Best Sunglasses Ever Made!

By:
May 17, 2009

I have owned these sunglasses for the last 4+ years or so now and I would never buy anything else. I have purchased semi-expensive sunglasses before, Revo, Ray Ban, and others on down to cheap... I have to say that my experiences were ok up until Maui Jim sunglasses. I was tired of always pushing the sunglasses backup on my face (for the heavier full metal frame types). I was also concerned about glare protection, or rather the elimination of glare, because I would often get a headache due to the constant squinting. But another issue of mine is durability. No matter how much I would love to avoid sitting on them, dropping them, or what have you, it’s inevitable that it will happen. Especially over a 4 year period. Yes, I did adjust the bridge nose pads too much and broke one off, but that was my fault. Outside of that, the lenses are indestructible… Now I wish I could say I was joking about this but I am not… Halloween night we went over to a friends house with the kids for some trick or treating, as it got dark, I put my sunglasses on top of my head on my baseball cap. The next day I forgot were I put my sunglasses and suddenly, I realized they may have fallen off while over the friends house. I called and asked if they had come across my sunglasses, to my dissatisfaction, they had not found them. About 2 hours later I received a phone call with bad news, my friend had accidentally run them over in the driveway with his Nissan Armada. Granted it was not on the cement driveway portion, it was in the part of the driveway with rounded loose stone, none-the-less, it was run over. I went over to pick them up and was amazed that the lenses had not snapped, broke, chipped, or cracked in any way, they were just “dented” and “scratched” I guess you could say. The frame was bent flat but I was able to bend the frame back into place and I ended up wearing them still until I lost them 4 days ago today. That is why I came back here to buy a second pair.

I more or less wear my sunglasses 24/7. If there's light out, I wear them. I don't care what the weather, light, dark, rain, sun...it does not matter, I wear them. These sunglasses are so light weight, they never need to be re-adjusted on the face. The do not cause pressure points like "Sport Girl" said in a previous review. These are awesome awesome sunglasses and you will not regret the purchase. I use them for fishing, boating, playing, and most importantly, golfing! 

These sunglasses are grade A+ in quality and Maui Jim customer service is A+.

These are the best sunglasses, period.

Jaime

Exceptional Quality

By:

Maui Jim sunglasses are second to none and these are no exception. The glasses are extraordinarily light weight. They are barely noticeable on your face. The lens quality is excellent as well. The only reason I held back the fifth star is that they are very difficult to store, they don't fold into the case easily and you cannot hang them from your shirt.

Hard to beat!

By:

I have pair of these shades in the gunmetal/neutral grey color. The lenses are top notch and the fit is great. They are so light you don't even know you are wearing them. They are well built and surprisingly durable for how light and thin they feel. The clarity and glare reduction from the polarized lenses make them a must have for being around water. I wear these boating, fishing, and drinking cocktails near the water to cut the glare. The way they wrap around holds them in place really well with little to no movement.

They are a bit pricey, but if you take care of them, they are worth it. With Maui Jim's you are paying for quality first and name second unlike many of the other companies where its name first and then questionable quality second.

Best Money ever spent on shades

By:
March 21, 2011

Got them because I play all sports in all conditions outside and wanted shades that could handle all conditions of lighting and weather. I have been pleased with the great performance. They are lightweight and do not fog up in changing weather or facial temperature changes during training runs and rides.

Three months after wearing them daily the bridge snapped when I picked them up off the counter. Maui Jim customer service to the rescue. I mailed them in with the preprinted form and received a NEW PAIR within a week! You cannot ask for anything more from customer service!

The downside is as noted in other posts: the flex frames do not fold easily to fit into or onto any carrier so BEWARE where you put them and wear them on your face as much as possible.

Best, lightest sunglasses ever

By:
July 29, 2010

I have about 20 pair of sunglasses. These are bar none the best ones I have. They are light, you can see outside AND inside with them, and they stay on your head even if you are upside down. I ride horses in the sport of eventing. These stay on your head and never move if you are just trotting or if you are jumping a 4 foot fence. They are comfortable with your helmet and never cause a problem. I am completely amazed! After I got them, I thought, why in the world didn't I get them before now!
I have owned Oakley, Dior, Chanel, Nike, Ray Ban, an 10 other kinds. These are the best. They even look good too.
If you ride horses, these are the only ones for you. I know of 6 people at the eventing barn that wear the same ones and we all LOVE them.

Best sunglasses I've ever owned

By:
July 23, 2010

There are the best sunglasses I've ever owned. I'm on my third pair due to putting them through the ringer biking, hiking and driving. They're so light I don't even know I'm wearing them. They pack super small and (like all Maui Jim's) have great polarizing lenses. They are really tough too - the titanium frame can be bent again and again. Not the cheapest glasses but you won't be sorry you splurged!

The Best I've used

By: Backcountry.com Employee
October 20, 2010

Just ordered a second pair of these after losing my first pair at the bottom of Flathead Lake. Sad, sad day. As so many others have said, they are incredibly lightweight, SUPER comfortable and stay glued to your head in pretty much any activity. The polarized lenses are as good as the manufacturer claims and the frame is tough and pliable.
Top notch, recommend them to anyone!
