Masters 5.11 Trekking Poles - 1 Pair - 2006 BCS

Plastic type cotter pin holds the handle to the shaft, busted down the Na Pali coast and the handle and spring fell apart. Definitely a design flaw, had to wrap the strap around the shaft to hold the handle on for the return trip. Would not buy these again. Only had 75 miles or so on them.

Great buy for the price. I have used them several times now including a couple of trips up to Camp Muir and they performed as good as any other poles I’ve owned. I have had poles that were much more expensive and were a little lighter but the Alpina 5.11 poles perform just as well. The extendable range is also noteworthy, they really compact down to a very small length.

Nice poles for the price. The grip is comfortable and the anti-shock is a nice addition. The poles collapse down to a reasonable size and the weight isn't half bad. The added wristbands are nice, and the interchangeable baskets are a nice feature. Definitely recommend.

This being the first set of trekking poles that I have used I don't have a very good frame of reference, but these poles have done everything I've wanted them to. Over the course of a long day hike, the simple shock absorption feels very nice. The poles are easily adjustable and I have no problems with slippage after I set the height. Best of all is the price, it's very reasonable.

I have had several outings using the Masters poles. They are really what I expected of them. Climbing on some talus, loose rock, muddy slopes, they helped balance me, and several times kept me from slipping, sliding and falling. I would definitely recommend these poles to anyone who asks. Waiting for snow yet, for a complete review.

Poles performed well over 12 mile backpacking trip to BSA Philmont Autumn Adventure. They were very useful in fording streams and as superchargers going up hills. Handles somewhat irritating to hand as perspiration appears, but then I have the sissy hands of an office worker.

I'm on my 2nd pair of these poles as the 1st pair bent and wouldn't compress to a small size after a minor fall. I am however very happy with the poles. Love the handles, shock absorption, and light weight of the poles. It is really hard to switch out the baskets...

THESE POLES ARE WIDELY ADVERTIZED ONLINE AS ANTISHOCK POLES THAT ALLOW YOU TO TURN OFF THE ANTISHOCK MECHANISM. WELL, YOU CAN TURN THEM HALFWAY OFF. THERE IS STILL A QUARTER INCH OF SPRING LEFT IN THE OFF POSITION. IF YOU LIKE A SOLID FEEL WITH NO "CUSH" THESE WON'T DO. THE "CLICK SOUND " WITH EACH STEP WAS ALSO A PROBLEM FOR ME.

I bought these from here a couple of years ago (then called "Kompressors") and they've saved my butt on many a Sierra hike. But I was prompted to write a review after getting back from a month in Ecuador, where they were invaluable. From muddy jungles to the Andes. Comfy grips, easy to extend and to change baskets, and they hold up well. Just make sure you have them firmly locked open, expect a little give even with antishock off, and you're good to go.
