You only get so many days off a week, so pick one with a promising weather report, set the alarm for 4:30 a.m., and finish packing the Marmot Zelus 25 Backpack for your weekly climb. Thanks to its molded back panel, the Zelus 25 comfortably carries your gear for a day of sanity-saving exertions.

  • Molded back panel adds contoured, ergonomic comfort
  • PE frame sheet provides rigidity for effective load transfer to your hips and is removable so you can adapt your pack to lighter loads
  • Zip-open top loader makes accessing your gear easy
  • Zippered mesh lid pocket with key clip keeps the little things from disappearing in the main cavity
  • Hydration sleeve accommodates your liquids (bladder not included)
  • Integrated vertical rope carry system saves space in the main compartment
  • Side compression straps let you adjust your pack's volume to meet different load sizes
  • Lid and front lash points enable you to easily carry extra gear
  • Ice-axe loops also work to haul trekking poles that are not in use

Bottom Line: Attack your day off with zeal.

I'd get the CamelBak Antidote (cheaper option) or the MSR Hydromedary (more expensive). I've always used CamelBak and never had any issues, but the MSR one looks really nice as well. I use MSR gear for cooking, etc, and it holds up well. Honestly, they will probably perform about the same, so it's a matter of money. The MSR one does has holes in the top (so you can hang it), which could be nice depending on the intended use.

Small enough to carry to the top on those shorter climbs where you might want to carry some extras like lunch, 1 inch webbing and anchor building supplies. Mostly, just a comfortable top loader that does everything it was designed for well. No daisy chain webbing down the back... no problem. Just string some cord between the tie ins and you can hang whatever you want. Two loops off the bottom... I use one for my hammer whose tether is girth hitched on my harness. Basic bolt kit and drill holder are inside the pack every climb... just in case! Still room for lunch, windbreaker, webbing, and a couple of beers to sit back and enjoy the view at the top. Great pack!

For carrying skis I you'll like something with a waist strap to help keep things centered and carry some of the weight.

Love this pack. It works great for hiking and short climbs. Fits my basic climbing gear, a change of clothes, lunch, DSLR camera kit, a rain coat and water bladder just fine. So far I have foun nothing wrong with it. It moves with me and feels light on my back even packed full. Great day hiking / short climb bag.
