Keep your fingers warm and nimble when you wear the Marmot Men’s Ultimate Ski Glove. Its waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex insert and PrimaLoft insulation ensure maximum warmth. Durable leather palms keep these Marmot gloves ready season after season. The Falcon Grip provides dexterity without losing performance and a ladderlock wrist cinch helps you obtain a close fit. A full-length gauntlet keeps the snow out while handy nose wipes keep the snot off your face. Safety leashes make sure you don’t donate the Marmot Ultimate Ski Gloves to skiers below as you ride the lift, because it’s doubtful that gloves with this many features would find their way back to you.
I can't give them 5 stars. I have a hard time keeping my hands warm in very cold weather no matter the glove I have on. I have yet to wear a glove that keeps my fingers toasty in weather under, say 15 degrees. These gloves are no different. However, I can say that these are the best gloves I have ever owned, and with a medium weight glove liner (makes them a little snug) they will keep my fingers as warm as I think is humanly possible in a glove and not a mitten. Moisture is not an issue at all, which is imperative to keeping your fingers warm in any freezing weather. Overall, a great glove, but still not the elusive "magic" glove that will keep my digits warm.
I had the Ultimate glove from a few years ago and loved them but on a DELTA flight from Albany/Minneapolis/Bozeman the gloves along with jacket, backpack w/shovel & probe were stolen out of my checked baggage,so I ordered a pair of XL Ultimate gloves and found them to be to small, very well constructed as were the ones that were stollen, but the new pair is just to tight. So I returned those and got a pair of the Hestra Heli glove size 12 and they are really great but I would like to see Marmot make the Ultimate larger because it is gore-tex and the Hestra is not.

I agree with war2619792: these are very well made with quality throughout. However the insulation in the fingers is SO tight and stiff, that you can hardly close your hands around a ski pole handle with these gloves on. While extra long gaiters may be desirable by some, these are so long that it's virtually impossible to roll them back to check your wristwatch...the gloves measure 13" from the tip of the middle finger to the edge of the gaiter. I use the Spyder Sestriere for normal temperatures on Bristol Mtn, NY (see my review), and the BD Guides when temps drop to the single digits and below zero. Both are very well made and considerably more comfortable and functional than the Ultimate's. The Sestriere's are very stylish; the Guide's are the ultimate in warmth, especially if you have a touch of Reynaud's Syndrome as I do.
Does the lifetime warranty really cover the gloves if they just 'wear out'? My dad works with horses, lifting bales of hay, pitch forks, etc. If he wears out the palms or fingers, does he get a new pair free?
Warranties, allbethem lifetime, generally cover defective workmanship and not everyday wear-and-tear. That being said, your dad would probably get much better use and wear from a glove with work designed as its purpose. (And they're less $$$.)http://marmot.com/fall_2008/mens/gloves/work_gloves/work_glove/info/details------------------------Well actually, if you think you can sleep at night afterwards, you could wear holes in them through normal use and Backcountry will still take them back and refund you fully. It's kind of cheap, but they'll do it.
I've had these for 2 seasons and love them. Very warm, great for big powder days (deep bib w/good closure), and the palms are more durable than any other glove I've used- I usually go through 1-2 pairs per season as I ski the Snowbird tram most days and constantly holding your skis in line can throw your gloves a beating. These hold-up well.
I have had two pair of these. I used the first pair for 8 years on ski partol and after 12 years I purchased a new pair to ski with. This is the best glove that I have owned, only after 10 years did one of the seams open up.
The fit of the glove is on the small side when you use the liner. I ski 90% of the time without the liners and only use them of the coldest of days
Tight fit. Has a removable polartec windstopper liner that is sewn poorly so that you feel the edges of the fabric at the seams inside the liners. Overall gloves are built VERY well and high quality... but unless you have really thin fingers they fit awfully tight. Going up a size isn't the answer either (I tried large and xL, and xl was just longer).
The reason that there seems to be a big difference in how people rate the comfort of the gloves is because historically they have been very comfortable. Last year they changes manufacturers and had a bad production run. I called Marmot last ski season and they suggested not buying this years. Hopefully, they get it write this year. I am very happy that the Marmot customer rep was so honest. I bought the Randonee last year and am very happy with it. I am still planning on buying a pair of Marmot Ultimates for the extra cold days. Hope this helps.
More of a four and a half than a five. The Good: Very warm in cold weather, but they don 't overheat on warmer days, I've even worn them comfortably on 50 F days. Waterproofing is great, I've worn them in down pouring rain and stayed dry. The interior is quite soft, and silky. Easy use of drawstrings, and 'dummy chords' (the things that keep your gloves from dropping off the lift.) Breathability- I thought no liner would be a problem on warm days, but the breathabiliy is excellent. They are Durable. The con: The sausage effect mentioned by others -The gloves are very tight on the fingers at first, but loosen up after about 24 hours of active use. They also become more flexible over time, giving slightly better dexterity than they initially have.
I initially was disappointed that these do not have a removable liner, but decided to send them back because they were too bulky and stiff.. I finally went to a local shop and tried on different gloves till I found ones I liked the feel of -- my 2 favorites were the Marmot work, and the BD Guides glove.
-Dexterity: 1 turn. Very rigid, in part because of weird treated leather on palm and fingers.
-Removable liner: 0 turns, no liner
-Wrist fit: 3 turns. 2nd best wrist strap of them all with tacky grip for tightening with the other glove on
-Palm material: 0 turns. Weird, rigid, hard feeling, not tacky grip material
-Overall Construction: 2 turns.
-Verdict: 1.2 turns. Kudos for great wrist strap - glove tested only came with one idiot strap on left glove....guess there is an extra strap without a glove somewhere in China. Overall, I was surprised by the changes Marmot made in the Ultimate Ski Glove the past few years. I bought this to replace my previous Marmot Ultimate Ski's which I loved....this new version fell short of those expectations
I can't give them 5 stars. I have a hard time keeping my hands warm in very cold weather no matter the glove I have on. I have yet to wear a glove more...
