Nice pants
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought these for a hiking trip in the White Mountains of NH with unpredictable weather. They performed very well, nicely water resistant, fit well, and they were comfortable. Also very easy to convert from pants to shorts and vice versa.

Actually easy to convert
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent for hiking and fishing. These have been my go-to pants all spring and summer for multi-day hiking, camping and fishing outings. Probably have 50 days of wear, and 20+ washes so far and they look brand new. The short ankle zipper makes the pant legs very easy to get off quickly, over hiking or wading boots. Great option for any warm days when it is chilly in the morning or buggy in the evening. Enough pocket space to be useful and still wear well, even if you skip the pack for a few hours and fill them all the way up. Material has been very durable so far, but also light and dries quickly. Have had dozens of zip-off pants over the years, and these are the best so far at being both great pants and great shorts, that convert easily, and hold up to being used as the only bottoms you brought on the trip. Ordered 2 more pairs.

Little bit on the long side
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent quality, pleanty of pockets!! Great color, I'm a 36 waist, 5ft10. but they are a bit on the long side. Will use the shorts more. Looking forward to using them on my next trip

Design flaws = unsuitable for active wear
Plus: Fabric is good quality and comfortable. Minus: The curved inset pockets are much harder to get hands into than slash pockets. Minus: The cut is too tight around the thighs, so the zipper openings bind. Not good for active wear. (I do not have massive thighs.) Minus: The side zips would be more functional if they came all the way up, so that the bottoms could be removed even if wearing boots, snowshoes, etc.

They run large
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought two pairs of pants - escalante pants, and these transcend convertibles. Both in the same size, but these fit way too big. The waist was too big and so I returned them because I didn't want to have to wear a belt and there was no internal drawstring or similar way to adjust without a belt. I liked the rugged cargo look of these and that they weren't overly tapered (I think hiking pants should be hiking pants and not try to be too stylish and compromise performance), but they just didn't fit me so I had to return. The leg zippers felt high quality and the fabric was good too, so if you have maybe a 33 inch waist I'd recommend trying the size 32

Good but a bit long in the inseam
Overall the convertible pants is good. However the inseam is pretty long for a size small and will need to hem up. But there is also a zipper to contend with at the bottom of the pant legs which will be another obstacle.
