Dude—sweet urban-style jacket. How are you not getting totally soaked on the slopes, though? Oh, that’s the Marmot Men’s Tower 8 Component Jacket, so that fabric is actually Marmot’s waterproof breathable MemBrain shell with fully taped seams? I’ll be darned. Hang on, the Tower 8 also has a removable, insulated liner? Angel-Wing Movement design, long pitzips, a removable hood, and a zip-off powder skirt. Damn. So you can wear the full thing for winter, the shell on spring ski days, and the liner around town.
It would not let me down when I needed that real world performance. Amazingly lightweight, attractive, and very comfortable too. Wish I had cause to wear it more often. I recently gave away my like new three layer Gore-Tex, systems jacket in favor of the Marmot Tower 8.
I already own this coat and love it for skiing, but I need to know whether it would be enough coat for a snowmobiling trip. I lent out my own snowmobiling gear. Now I am trying to improvise gear for myself. Wisconsin/Minnesota January weather. Will be wearing bibs of course, but am concerned about wind on high speed lake crossings. Average 150 miles a day, so getting cold mid-day is really not an option. Thanks for any opinions.

I live in Ontario and on the ski hills here the wind is a huge factor. Last weekend at -20 I didn't feel the wind at all. The jacket holds up well to harsh weather and I would recommend it for all types of winter use. Both the removable liner on its own and the complete jacket look awesome.
Feels right for the size, I'd say. This coat is wider at the bottom than it needs to be, which may be a good thing for you. I am 5' 10'' 175 lbs. I had to exchange a medium for a large. Medium was long enough and big enough at the waist, but too small in the shoulders. Afterward I compared myself to the sizing chart, and found it to be pretty accurate.
Well I have to say this coat is everything I was expecting. I love it! It keeps me warm and dry. It hasnt gotten really cold yet but the coat kept me warm in 20 degree weather. Unfortunately it will get colder... so hopefully it holds up. Personally I am also very satisfied with how stylish it is (I have received compliments!)and how thin/moveable it is. It has also shown itself to be water proof in downpour conditions! Perfect. And the sales associates have proven to be helpful at every turn! I did however notice a manufacturing blunder... the inside pocket has a hole in it that was never sewn properly. Once this site has the size and color I need in stock again I will be exchanging for the same exact coat as I find it to be perfect for me.
What makes the Marmot Tower 8 worth $50 more than the Gunsight Component Jacket? Trying to compare jackets and these 2 look virtually identical....what am I missing. Thank you for a serious answer.
Dawn,The Tower is almost a half lb lighter. The only other differernces are color pattern options and pocket placements. If weight is not an issue, save the $50 and go for the Gunsight. Also the material on the tower 8 is a little bit more texturized than the Gunsight. Makes for a different feel/look. you can see the difference if you zoom in on the pictures of each jacket.
