Venture out into the cold while wearing the Marmot Men's Thermo Fleece Hooded Top underneath your outwear and you'll suddenly find a new level of warmth, comfort, and mobility. Work up a sweat, and the stretchy Power Dry fabric will allow that chilling moisture to move away from your skin so you stay dry, and in turn, warm. Small bits of fit-and-finish like flatlock seams and a close-fitting hood make all the difference in the world whether you're wearing this top alone in mild weather, or using it as a layer when the nastiness of winter strikes.

  • Polartec Power Dry fabric provides plenty of warmth in cold weather, breathes to help regulate temperature, and helps to move chilling moisture away from the surface of your skin
  • Elastane fibers allow the Power Stretch fabric to stretch and flex as you do so you maintain full range of motion
  • Flatlock construction keeps seams flat in order to eliminate bulges that cause nasty hot spots
  • Athletic fit keeps this top close to your body for warmth but still allows for lightweight layering underneath

Most versatile piece of gear I own!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 7"
    Weight: 155 lbs
    Size Purchased: Small

This hoodie is so good, I don't even know where to start. The size is good. I'm 5'7" and 155 lbs. and the small fits nicely. I've owned this for almost a year now and used it all of last fall, winter, and early to mid spring (I live in Wisconsin).

First, this piece is of excellent build quality. The material is very stretchy and light, but due to the checkered fleece lining you get the benefits of warmth and adequate wicking all in one.

The fit is awesome - nice and tight but not restricting. You could easily use this as a base layer or over the top of a short sleeve base layer.

The warmth of this product is outstanding. So long as you have a wind block, the warmth to weight ratio is pretty high.

The hood is perfect. It's tight, so will fit under a helmet just fine. I used this last fall for cycling and had no problems with the hood under my bike helmet. The thumbholes are perfect as well. Using them adds a nice stretch around the hand so there is minimal bulk if you want to slide some gloves on.

After 6 months of daily use, the wear is pretty exceptional. I haven't noticed any major issues with piling - just a bit around the wrist but nothing excessive.

I don't really know what else to say. You can use this for literally any activity where sweat and warmth are both issues. Definitely buy one!

Can anyone comment on how this fits under a helmet?

I can't comment on actual use with a helmet, but the hood is a very close fitting hood, so it should work just fine. It's also single layer (unlike Patagonia Capilene 4's double layer hood), so it's not bulky.

I like it when people answer their own question. :)

Weight is wrong on this site and on Marmot's website. A medium comes in at 8.2oz (+/- a tenth of an ounce or two)

I just exchanged my small for a medium and it came in at 7.8oz.

Is this a baselayer? Or is best-use to wear over a thin baselayer?

Hey B.E.
That's really up to you and the conditions you are in. It really could work as your first layer or as a mid-layer. It is designed so that if you wore it next to skin it would still be comfortable. But, if you size up, you could certainly use it as a mid-layer on the really cold days.
