Take flight through cold and wet weather with warm protection.
The Marmot Men's Tamarack Jacket sees you through the ski season with total protection and comfort. A MemBrain shell with fully taped seams puts a waterproof barrier between you and the snowy skies. PitZips let out some steam during an intense ride, and Zippin compatibility lets you zip an insulating fleece or puffy to this jacket during frigid ski sessions.
Marmot made the Tamarack out of a durable nylon shell that handles all your crud-scraping crashes for multiple seasons. The HD brushed tricot lining slides over your shoulders with ease, and a DriClime lined collar pushes moisture away so your neck stays dry. Its powder skirt protects your backside from snow. The hood's laminated brim stays out of your eyesight, and you can remove the hood for bluebird days. Angel-Wing Movement offers unrestricted mobility for your free-skiing flights. Hook-and-loop cuffs seal out the cold, and a drawcord at the hem keeps warmth in.

Great Jacket for the money!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: small
This is a great jacket as long as you do not plan on wearing a pack.
So far held up in windy hard rain several times!
Only negative is that I wish there were more pockets and the powder skirt was removable.
It would be nice if there was a descent mid layer to zip in (not the warmlight fleece, poor fit).
Capable Multipurpose Shell
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: XL
In the short time I have owned this shell I have put it through its paces in heavy rain, wind and snow. It is performing as advertised and I am especially happy with the Tricot liner and DriClime collar. Overall the breathability and performance has been excellent for the price point with only a few minor inconveniences that are keeping it from a 5 star rating.
First - The hood is not large enough to fit over my Smith Vantage helmet. It does however fit very well without a helmet and provides great articulation with head movement. Another small annoyance is the Velcro fasteners that hold the front of the hood to the collar. The tabs insert into the collar and are held by small Velcro tabs which pull free easily making it an inconvenience to reinsert and fasten while the coat is still on.
Second- Only one inside pocket which is of moderate size and is not large enough to stow heavy gloves to keep dry and warm. You can squeeze most goggles in it if you wanted to but I had trouble with my Oakley Air Frames.
Third - Hand pockets are a little low and are slightly difficult to access when wearing a pack.
All in all the performance, weight and comfort of this jacket make all the minor inconveniences insignificant. This jacket has performed well in temperatures from 15 to 55 with only a merino base layer and Marmot 1/2 zip fleece on the coldest outings and heat gear base layers on the warmer days. Only time will tell about the durability however I have every confidence it will do well based on the materials and construction.
Marmot's Curly's Clips: The Tamarack Jacket
This is strictly a Technical Shell... a breathable waterproof jacket, not an insulated waterproof jacket correct? I'm not seeing "breathable" touted anywhere in the description.
Yes, a shell You can zip in other Marmot liners into. A Tamarack component jacket used to be sold, I think it may have been discontinued. I got one 5 years ago.Shell + liner that was also a stand alone insulated jacket~ Great jacket, 7 stars ~
Alex, I can attest that this non- insulated technical shell is a quality breathable soft shell that has performed very well for me in all types of weather during moderate to heavy activity.
What jackets can zip into this jacket?
The Marmot Warmlight Fleece Jacket - Men's is the only jacket I know of that will be able to zip into this jacket. Below is a link to that jacket.
Do not buy the warmlight fleece! Terrible stitching and fit. Extremely restrictive in the underarm (lat/chest) area.
Awful with any wind conditions. Tamarack is a great shell and I have 3 other marmot jackets that I use for mid layers.
