It's surprising that the Marmot Women's Super Mica Jacket only weighs 8.9 ounces and protects you from the elements whether you're backpacking in bad weather, alpine climbing through the clouds, or cycling in the rain. Its NanoPro MemBrain has fully taped seams to offer the same waterproof protection that most ski jackets have, but the Super Mica is a lot more breathable to keep you prime while cycling in warmer weather. The mini ripstop shell is so thin that you can see through it, but it's definitely durable enough to handle all the wear-and-tear involved with the outdoor lifestyle. To enhance its durability, Marmot added Duralite reinforcements at the shoulders and waist to eliminate any wear when you backpack through the woods with a heavy load.

Marmot designed its Super Micra with an trim, athletic fit to keep the bulk and weight down, but Angel-Wing Movement ensures maximum mobility. Underarm vents let you get some much-needed air on the mountain's steeper sections, and the Gale force hood stays in place when windy weather tries to blow it down. Asymmetric cuffs keep off your palms when you're climbing, and an elastic drawcord at the hem prevents the bottom from flapping over your harness. Pack pockets are always accessible even with a harness or pack on, and water-resistant zippers cover the pockets and the underarm zippers to add extra protection in wet weather.

Super Mica in the rainy Sawtooths

Super Mica Stoke

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size
  • Size Bought: L

I bought this jacket as an additional shell jacket for warmer spring ski days or rainy backpacking trips.... let's be real, the color (yellow) was definitely part of my purchase decision. I bought a L because I splitboard, so I can't look like too much of a skier ;) AND I like to have a very flexible layering system. A M would probably fit most gals my size, but I like to have lots of room for puffy layers and lots of length to reduce snow down pants issues. This jacket definitely did that. It certainly is more of a rain jacket than a ski shell, as its feel is the thinner slicker material often found in rain jackets. I rated it 4 stars because I wish it was Gore-Tex, but I do like the big hood, pit zips, pocket options, and style. It also packs down very well and breathes decently on the ascent.

Light and Tough

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

I was in need of a great rain layer. I attended a clinic at my work that blew me out of the water about the super mica! It was the only product that would protect you fully from the rain, while breathing without any clammy problems. It fits like a dream! loose enough for spring time attire, and maybe a thing thermal. I wear a S so that is what i got! Perfect fit! The extra buff shoulder protectors, and hip protectors look promising for keeping my jacket waterproof for years to come! The two things i can think that could bother folks is the inability to remove the hood, or stow this little dude in it's own pocket. Doesnt bother me though!

Hi Emily,

I'm wondering about the sizing on this jacket, as I know Marmot jackets can fit a little differently than other brands. My girlfriend is pretty petite at 5'3 and 115, and I'm wondering if you think an XS or a S would work better for her.

Thank you!

Eric,

ohh man i love this jacket! No wetting out at all, and i biked in a total down pour!!! Marmot reworked their NanoPro and it is outstanding! I am 5'4" and 125, the size small is perfect for me.

If you know her chest size that will be most helpful. Mine is a 34, so its possible she would be more comfortable in the XS, however it could leave little room for layers!

Does anyone know if the hood is large enough to fit over a helmet?
