ROM shell -great jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

The jacket is great for San Francisco micro climate. The size fits her well and she likes the color (cherry tomato).

Just about perfect!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really love this jacket. The M1 fabric is great! Although it's not as super-stretchy as other thin (and cold) softshell jackets, it is lined with warm, semi-stretchy, soft, fleece-like material (which I much prefer to being cold)! The only cons about this jacket are that the hood is NOT helmet compatible and I would rather not have a useless sleeve pocket (an outer chest pocket would have been much better). Other than that, I love it and still wouldn't trade it for any other jacket! I usually wear a medium and got a medium. It fits just right with not a whole lot of extra room but enough that I was able to wear a light fleece jacket underneath. Perks: I love the grape juice color!

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Fit is snug - you'll wear your down over top on lunch stops in the back country. Thin / med layers fit well under but not a thick sweater. Hood fit is very snug - again, great for under a helmet but not over. Excellent quality & Marmot has top notch customer service if needed (my husband had to return a jacket and they really stand by their life time warranty). Works great on the wet coast - I've been in freezing rain, slushy snow days, regular gentle rains, both in town and skiing - great water resistance - I stayed warm and dry. Colours are gorgeous. Price very reasonable for the quality & performance.

Just a comment for K Maul...

Dear sir, I am glad you revised your review, as Marmot soft shell jackets are top-notch. They do what they are supposed to do amazingly well: provide water-RESISTANCE, during aerobic activity while remaining highly breathable and wind repellant. Standing in a downpour in a soft shell and expecting to remain dry and warm is not what this jacket is for. Your kid rock show called for a fleece under a trench coat!

Thank you for the feedback. When I ordered the jacket, the description said 'waterproof'. There are membrane jackets that are water proof, and I ordered this one understanding that definition. I even verified that the above description does indeed state that the jacket is waterproof. Since it didn't work, and the new one does... I was more than happy to revise the review.

In any case, it's a great jacket - and the new one performs much better than the first. Perhaps, the jacket came faulty - who knows.

Returned/Re-ordered/Re-vising review...

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

Returned the jacket referenced below, and re-ordered it based on feedback from others and REI that the Marmot jackets should live up to the hype. I'm glad I did - as the new one works much better and survives the water. Revising the review and offsetting the score

NOT waterproof....

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased this for my girlfriend to use as an all climate soft shell for use in Denver. Thankfully, I did - and the day I gave it to her, we needed it to survive the torrential downpour and tornado watch during the Kid Rock show at Fiddler's Green. Much to my dismay, as I had tightened her hood and helped her lock up the cuffs... I could see the water no longer beading up on the jacket after only 30 minutes. After 60 minutes, the jacket was fully saturated, and no longer useful at all - as the moisture was through to her, and now the wind and dropping temp were making her miserable.

I'll be returning this... Marmot jackets typically have a great rep, and this was the 1st time I switched from Mountain Hardwear to any other brand. I won't make this mistake again - regardless of their lifetime guarantee. VERY disappointed in this...didn't even make it through one wear in one night.

Great Jacket

Not to heavy but warm enough for a cool San Francisco night. Works great as a wind stopper and love the color.
