Pretty Marmot softshell jacket

So nice jacket! I got the Sea Green, XS. The color is very true to the picture (I was afraid it were too bright, but it is just great). Soft material and stretchy, so it is very comfortable to wear.

Great gift for the girlfriend!

Got this for my girlfriend for Christmas. She absolutely loves it. Wears a Small over the Stoic Breaker Fleece Hooded Jacket Small. Looks great. Pockets on the outside are smaller openings but are deep.

Hi Jamie, no this jacket isn't waterproof... it uses Marmot's "M3" version of softshell material, see below for an explanation of the three:

M1
M1 shells provide the highest level of warmth and thermal protection. They are best for intermittent aerobic use in cold conditions.

M2
M2 shells are the ideal balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection. They are appropriate for a wide range of aerobic use in moderate to cold conditions.

M3
M3 shells are the most breathable in the M-series. They are best for high aerobic use in mild conditions.

OK - but the Mithril is WAY better

Bought this and the O.R. Mithiril softshell to compare, we are returning this one...this one is okay, but the O.R. Mithril is worth the extra money for sure. The hood on this one is virtually useless as it is so large, it hangs down and blocks your vision.

Responded on

The hood is so large in order to fit over a helmet. When climbing, skiing, etc, the hood is the perfect size to pull up and over your helmet.

How tight are the fixed cuffs? Is it difficult to pull cuff over gloves once the jacket is on?

Responded on

The fixed cuffs are VERY tight. Gloves need to go on over the top :(

Eh. Not so much.

I received this jacket and have been on the fence as to whether or not I should return it. I was hoping to find something to bridge the gap between my winter Arcteryx softshell (too heavy for spring) and summer weather. This jacket fits nicely (although the pockets are oddly high and not comfortable to use) and it has an interior collar, which I like. It is neither windproof nor waterproof, which is fine except that for the price I expected a few more bells and whistles. I ordered a medium and it fit my long arms nicely. I am 5'51/2 and 130 lbs. with a fairly slim athletic build (monkey arms). Not much room for layering though. A hooded sweatshirt would be too much. I spend my free time hiking, running, skiing and I don't think this jacket is appropriate for any of that. It is less of a performance piece and more of a "looks great walking the dog in a mountain town" piece, in my opinion. The chocolate brown color is very nice. I may order it in white for 1/2 the price and call it a day.

Size up

I love this jacket! But found it to be too tight with a sweater. The pockets seemed a bit high as well - kinda wierd. Had to return ....darn!

How windproof is this jacket?

Responded on

This is an M3 soft shell and as such is wind resistant, but not windproof. This is how Marmot describes it's M-3 softshells: When you need just a touch of warmth and maximum breathability, the M3 softshell is the answer. It's ideal for high-output aerobic activity in mild conditions.

Its Marmot what more can you say

Bought this jacket for my wife after she seen my softshell. It is a light wieght soft shell as apose to some heavyer ones, so not too warm for mild wet days. She thought the color was perfect and diff from most others out there.

Love this jacket!

I too searched high and low for a functional, somewhat tailored looking soft shell. I found it in the Marmot Summerset. I am usually a solid XS in just about any brand of clothing, but I purchased this jacket in a small. It isn't bulky and still has a slim fit whether or not I layer. I'm short (5'2") but I prefer a longer cut jacket, and I found the Summerset to be the perfect length. It doesn't have all the bells and whistle that a lot of similar priced jackets have, but it is pretty water resistant (I live in rainy Southeast Alaska!), and keeps the wind out nicely. Some of the other softshells I tried were very stiff and didn't conform to my body. This jacket is soft (the inside has a brushed, thin fleecy feel), and moves with your body. The hood is also nice as it cinches down around your head well without making you look ridiculous. All in all it was well worth the money to buys something that is going to look good for years.

Best Jacket Ever

I have been on the search for a black softshell for a while now, and when I came across this Marmot, it was exactly what I had been looking for. I have tried on hundreds of jackets and this one has the best fit. It is slim fit and flattering and can be worn with anything. You can even wear it out and look quite classy. I have gotten more complements than I can count while wearing this jacket, and all my friends want one. Not only that, the price is extremely reasonable. I got this jacket stolen when i set it down on the ski trail, and I only waited about a week before I decided to just go ahead and buy another one. Well worth my money.
I am 5'4" and 135 lbs and the size small fits me perfectly. I am able to fit light layers underneath it comfortably, although wearing a sweatshirt underneath is quite snug.
All around, by far my favorite jacket. Thinking of buying one in a pretty color...

Perfect lightwieght softshell

I got my wife this jacket for an early Christmas present and she loves it. Perfect softshell for mild fall weather here in charleston your bound to get stuck in the rain. Not to heavy so it can be worn any time but liner is good for chilly morning starts. Besides, this is one of the only womens softshell with a collar that's separate from the hood. Great price to.

It is a thin, fleecy feeling fabric.

So is this jacket a hip or waist length?...

So is this jacket a hip or waist length? I have a pretty long torso. Measurements would be nice.

Responded on

Center back measurement is 25.5"

Responded on

You may want to consider the Burton Mansfield jacket. It is several inches longer than this one.

Responded on

I have found that this jacket is at the perfect length. It doesn't sit short like many of the other softshells.
