Description

Stay dry, comfortable, and on top of your game.

Rather than holing up in your tent when the spring rains come, slide on your Marmot Storm Shield Jacket and see what the woods looks like when wet. This lightweight rain jacket features waterproof breathable Precip fabric to block out stormy weather and allow evaporating sweat to pass through to the outside world.
  • Fully taped seams prevent rain from dripping down the fabric face and sneaking in through the joints
  • Mesh lining helps separate the shell fabric from your body to improve air circulation and breathability
  • Storm flap features a hook-and-loop closure system to keep rain from coming in through the front zipper

Great rain jacket for the price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

For rainy days on the way to work or walking the dog, this is a great rain coat. Haven't put it through severe rain but imagine it'd get you where you're going without making you miserable. I put the hood on and all the sounds of the woods or city are muted, kind of nice.

Not For The Weight Watcher but Dry

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Used this shell in many places throughout the PNW including a trip to Rialto Beach on a full on drencher. You can't beat the price when it comes to keeping ya dry. It's much heavier than the PreCip Jacket but will keep you dryer in a downpour but found the breath-ability was lacking.

I did have a problem with the tape coming loose but the great benefit of all Marmot gear is their warranty and after contacting them I sent it in and a new one arrived a couple of weeks later that had been slimmed down in the hood and a little less in weight.

Does this jacket pack into its own pocket?

Responded on

This does not pack into its own pocket, but what I do with jackets like this is pack it into its hood for storage. You would be surprised how much easier that is.

What a deal.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I had heard that the PreCip got a wee too wet for a rain jacket. So, I decided to purchase the Storm Shield. I ran this thing under a faucet for a few seconds and it stops water. In complete downpour, it will hold a smidgen of water, but that's because it's 15/15. That's a given. I highly recommend this for the skier, hiker, backpacker, adventurer. Have fun, folks.

What are the differences between this and the PreCip? From what I can tell, this thing is a bit heavier and more like a ski shell than the precip.

Best Answer Responded on

They are indeed very similar jackets. The Precip features their slanted "Pack Pockets" which allow access while wearing a backpack. The PreCip also has a stowable hood where the Storm Shield's is fixed. The last major feature difference is pit zips, the PreCip has them and the Storm Shield does not. Where the Storm Shield goes up in price is from the materials. It is a heavier duty weave at 4.5 oz/yd where the PreCip is 2.7 oz/yd.

Light, looks great.

I have taken this jacket through a sudden downpour in Florida, the normal rains of New York City, and hiked in the snow as well. The shell kept me dry through my adventures and to top it off, it looks great. The design is simple, which I look for in all the gear I buy. I am 5'7" 140lbs and a small fits me just right with room to spare without feeling tight... example, layer a sweater, under a fleece, under the Storm Shield.

Great, packable little jacket

Bought it in Cobalt blue. It has served me well from rainforest downpours to a tropical storm or two. Keeps me dry, breathes well, and packs down nicely in a daypack. I'm 5'9 170 and the medium fits very well.

How small will this pack? Will it roll into it's own pocket?

Responded on

No, you can't fold this into its own pocket. The Pre Clip technology will pack into a water bottle size.

does this jacket have Pit Zips?

No pit zips on this one. Try the PreCip jacket. Cheaper, same fabric, with pit zips!
