A serious down jacket for when winter weather gets seriously cold.
In your mind, Stockholm syndrome is when you start liking winter weather just a little too much. Your son is exhibiting signs, but at least you know he'll be warm in the Marmot Boys' Stockholm Jacket when the hounds of winter bark their arrival. The shiny down-proof fabric fits with his smooth-talking style and won't succumb to the sharp quills of the 700-fill down insulation or the sunless days of Alaskan winter.
Down is the gold standard of insulation, providing warmth for relatively little weight. Down works by creating a lattice-like network with air trapped in the open spaces. The trapped air creates a boundary, letting neither cold air in nor warm air out, thus acting as an insulator. However, when down gets wet, it loses loft, the lattice collapses, and is not longer able to insulate. The folks at Marmot created Down Defender, a proprietary technology that enables down fibers to resist collapsing when exposed to moisture. Now, when your snow prince goes sledding on his tummy, he'll be able to get a few runs in before being felled by wet down.
The hood zips off when the wind isn't screaming below-zero windchills, and micro-fleece internal cuffs are warm and soft against his wrists. An elastic drawcord hem lets your boy seal in warmth when light flurries transform into a raging snowstorm. He can store his portable game player in the inside pocket, and emergency cash in the zipped sleeve pocket. As you watch your boy size up the three-foot high drifts on the roof, at least you can take comfort in knowing your son will stay warm in the Stockholm jacket, if nothing else.

- Q & A
- Fit: True to size
Very happy with the quality of the coat. I purchased two for our boys. The fit seems true to size, not bulky for the amount of fill, which is nicer for mobility with kids especially. I know they will be warm without worry this coming Winter. I'd much rather buy one great quality coat than multiple cheaply made ones and was happy to find this on Backcountry.
