The most affordable jacket in Marmot's Gore-Tex line.

Marmot offers top-quality features and a lower price tag with its Men's Spire Jacket for your climbing adventures. A Gore-Tex membrane with fully taped seams makes the polyester shell waterproof so you stay dry if an unexpected rainstorm hits you. Marmot laser-drilled the backing to let moisture escape quicker so you stay comfortable when you pick up a sweat, and PitZips let out even more steam when you reach the belay stance after an intense pitch.

The Spire features a powder skirt for your snowy climbs, and you can remove it when snow isn't an issue. The hood has an ERG adjustment to cinch comfortably across your head, and the laminated brim offers full visibility when you belay your buddy. Angel-Wing Movement offers a full range of motion so you can reach and bend without exposing your waist to the cold air, and smooth DriClime lining covers your chin for all-day comfort. Water-resistant Pack Pockets are accessible with a harness and a pack on. And the hem tightens across your waist when breezy blizzards try to blow this jacket off your body.

I have purchased many "waterproof" and/or water resistant rain jackets in the your money and make the investment with GoreTex. I do not see this jacket being replaced for several years. I've had it for about 8 months now and worn it in the snow, sleet, hail, rain and just days when it is good to have a wind-breaker. My only issues that I have with the jacket are that the hood is HUGE (meant to go over a helmet I'm assuming?). Even after tightening the elastic bands on the inside, the hood would not stay on unless the jacket was zipped all the way up. The jacket is also fairly snug around the waist even without layers on, however I blame this primarily on my build. I have used this jacket fishing and kayaking as well, one problem I ran into was my fly line getting snagged or stuck on the wrist straps as they face inward. On another note, I purchased this with the Marmot Ama Dablam insulated jacket and the pair work great with each other without sizing up on the Spire. (with the exception of the spire being snug around the bottom)

The measures consider the use of a second layer?
or Only the snug fit?

Responded on

It will consider that you will have a midlayer on. That being said, if your midlayer is fairly bulky, consider ordering up a size.

Killer deal, poor construction

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Overall a pretty good jacket for downhill skiing. Love the fit, keeps me dry, looks great. Great value for the money.

Only gets 3 stars in my book though -quite disappointed that almost every piece of Velcro on the jacket fell off or began to fall off in under a year. A jacket at this price shouldn't have such issues. Sent it back for warranty repair, but turn around is 4-6 weeks, and I'm going to have to buy something new to get me through the rest of the season.

What is the center back length of a medium?

I'm 186 tall, my inseam is 85 cm, my chest 97cm, and 75 the waist.
So it must be: Chest 38,19
Waist 29,53 inches
Inseam 33,46 inches
Do you think the M measure fits on me?

Hey Andrea,

You are kinda on the upper end of a size Small. Personally I like to have a little extra room so if it were me I would probably size up to a Medium.

Is this ski jacket suitable for very cold weather , ie insulated?

Responded on

This jacket is not insulated, it's only a shell but would be fine to use in cold weather with layering underneath.
