The Marmot Men's Sharp Point Softshell Jacket is part of Marmot's M1 series, which means it's going to offer burly protection from wind, light precipitation, and trail hazards like overhanging rock faces, trees, and underbrush. The jacket is highly breathable, but Marmot also equipped it with underarm zip vents so you can stay comfortable after a hard climb up the skintrack.

  • Gore WindStopper M1 softshell fabric is windproof, breathable, and water- and abrasion-resistant
  • Reinforced shoulders and elbows stretch to allow free movement and provide extra durability
  • Stretchy fabric and Angel-Wing Movement give you full range of motion
  • PitZips dump excess heat when you reach the end of your favorite skin track
  • Hem cord and hook-and-loop tabs at the cuffs help prevent cold air and snow from slipping under the shell
  • Interior zip pocket includes cord port for easy access to your tunes

Great softshell

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I'm still kicking myself for letting one get away on here at over 70% off M.S.R.P. I still can't believe I hesitated!

I am 6' 260 and the XXL fits fine. I also own the Approach softshell and this one fits much better. The sleeves are a little bigger in diameter but still difficult to slide over a sweatshirt. The material is very stretchy and no wind gets through this thing. It still has a good water repellant so I'll see how it goes after that wears off. I breathes far better than a hardshell but you can easily sweat in it during high activity. The pit zips work well to vent.

All zippers have a flap to prevent wind from getting in and they work well. It has one spacious interior zip pocket and two HUGE zippered hand pockets. So huge that you could almost dayhike without an actual pack.

I have brushed around on some trees and so far nothing to show it.

I generally run hot but I was comfortable crawling out of my bag and donning this as well as a down sweater over a base layer in the low teens. I also had to vent it via opening the pit zips at 30* over a light base layer.

If something did happen to this one I would have to bite the bullet and pay whatever price for another one. I got mine at 40% off. YES it is that good.

UPDATE: Some stitching was coming out and had to exchange. With BC it's truly worry free shopping!!!

Unfortunately even the replacement has the exact same problem and Marmot doesn't offer a Windstopper softshell with pit zips any longer. Really stinks but I guess I won't be dealing with Marmot products any longer.

Best jacket I've ever owned

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I've owned this jacket for six years and have thrown everything at it. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, snowshoeing, snowboarding, elk hunting, daily jacket, you name it. I've crawled through the red rock and sand stone of Southern and Eastern Utah, thorn bushes of the Northern Utah mountains and it still looks brand new. This jacket is bullet proof. It says water-resistant, but it's all but water proof. I've stood in down pours along ridge tops by Strawberry Reservoir for hours and stayed dry. The Windstopper is bomber. I have and would recommend this jacket to any one. I will buy another one if I ever wear this one out. The only issue for me is breath ability. I over heat very easily and sweat like a hooker in church, but once I open the pit zips the jacket vents like I took it off. It probably breathes fine for most people, but I love those pit zips. Do yourself a favor and buy this. I love Marmot.

can you send replacement black hook-and-loop...

can you send replacement black hook-and-loop tabs for my Marmont soft shell jacket ? I can have them sewn in at a seamstress shop. Thank you for your consideration.

I am 6'3" 195lbs 42" chest and 36" long...

I am 6'3" 195lbs 42" chest and 36" long sleeves. Which size will work? The charts show L-XL...Large based on measurements, but I see a lot of people who are much shorter reported that the large fits. Please help.

If you have 36" sleeves you should go for the XL considering you will want to wear something like a fleece with the Sharp Point. If you were only to wear a T-shirt, an L might work but..... I am 6'2 and 240 lbs with a 48" chest and 37" sleeves and while the XL was a "sexier" fit, I had to take into account I would want to layer. I, personally, wish this jacket had a more athletic cut inasmuch as my waist 35 but what matters most is being about to wear something underneath while having the comfort of the sleeves spanning the length of your arm.
