Whether you’re cruising down the mountain on an epic powder day or grabbing some coffee on a cold winter morning, you want the Marmot Men’s Roasta Fleece Jacket on your upper half. Wear this fuzzy fleece as a mid-layer for skiing or as an outer layer in the Spring. The Polartec Thermal Pro Highloft fleece provides furnace-like warmth as well as some unique style, and the wind flap behind the zipper blocks chilly drafts.
First off, this jacket is warm. I put this on underneath the Marmot Minimalist Gore-tex Paclite and I was roasting!!! I'm 5"11 150lbs and I ordered a small in both the Roasta and Minimalist and they are perfect for layering. The chest pocket is huge and the hem draw string can be easily adjusted from inside the 2 front pockets. All around you can't go wrong with the jacket.
They are the same fleece weight, so they are probably about the same warmth. MHW may have a little more loft but your decision is just up to company preference.
The title says it all. This fleece is incredibly warm, so warm that I often get hot when I come in from the cold wearing it, with just a t-shirt on under it.
Its not windproof, but its not designed to be. Its a layering piece and works extremely well for that purpose.
The fit was excellent. I'm 145, and 5'11 and a medium fits me nicely. Its slightly looser than my medium Patagonia R2, but I love the fit. This is an extremely functional and stylish fleece. Buy one, you won't regret it.

I'm a huge fan of Marmot product's and once again, I'm glad to add this to my personal Marmot collection(Black Roasta Fleece Jacket in XL). If your considering this jacket, and this is your first Marmot purchase, your expectation's will be exceeded. I love this brand. I also love the fact that not everyone and there mother rock's it like North Face gear. The pro's are that this is light weight & warm. The con's are that it run's a bit snug so I would order a size up from what your used to. My only suggestion for this jacket is if they ever re-design this jacket, it's that they put the same fuzzy fleece material on the inside's of the jacket as they do on the outside. The material is so soft on the skin and it's a shame that it's limited to the outside of the jacket. However, I seem to get more hug's from my girlfriend when I where it so believe me, i'm not complaining. I hope this helps. Lin in VB, VA
This fleece is incredibly light but unbelievably warm. Washed in washing machine hang it for 30 minutes. It completely dries. Neck is too big or my neck is too thin. I've already recommended my friends and co-workers.
It really depends how cold it is where you live. Many fleece jackets, including this one, are not windproof and generally will not be especially warm when it is cold (say below freezing) or windy, unless placed under a windproof layer such as a ski jacket. This jacket would probably be fine in moderately cold conditions (say above freezing). I suggest checking out fleece jackets that have a windproof laminate, such as the Mountain Hardwear Boris and the Patagonia R4. I'm sure Marmot has something similar. They are somewhat more expensive, but in my experience windproof fleece jackets (I have an R4 and love it) are much warmer in cold/windy conditions. Note that I do not have this particular fleece jacket, but I do have several others, including a TNF Denali Thermal, which is made of the same fleece material as this jacket.
I live in Germany and it has snowed recently along with some extreme cold temperatures (try 20- C)! Nice coat, very warm, but a bit too snug. I'm 6'2, 188 lbs with a 32" waist and 44" chest. I'm not fat by any means, but I felt an L didn't fit me well. I normally wear an L and still have some wiggle room. Recommended nontheless.
