I really like the style and look this has. Keeping in mind it is a school/laptop pack. I will use this 75% for classes and work, and 25% on day hikes. I'm really impressed with how they divided up the pockets. This pack is a lot larger than I thought it was and has a place for everything I need.
The outer medium pocket has two sleeves, one which holds a 32oz bottle perfectly, and the other holds my 12oz coffee thermos. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Overall, for an initial inspection of this laptop pack, I'm quite happy. I will have to test out the shoulder straps and back padding on a trail hike (today or tom) and add to this review with some long term results.

Update on water resistance and comfort level while hiking.
The outer fabric on this pack is in no way water resistant. It rained yesterday on my hike, and instead of water beading up on the fabric, it actually absorbed into the fabric. The great news is that the water didn't leak through whatever this pack is lined with, so nothing inside got wet. I'm going to pick up some Nikwax for the outer fabric to prevent water-log. The last thing I need is carrying around an extra 1-2 lbs of water weight.
This is a very comfortable pack to carry. The shoulder straps had me worried as they seemed thin. But they were very comfortable, as well as the back padding. I had 15lbs in this pack for a 4 mile hike and hardly noticed it. The back padding provided more ventilation on my lower back which I'm not used to. I also found the side pockets to work great for my camera.

I was really excited when I got this pack for school. I started using it last year for summer school. At first, I was a bit annoyed that it didn't have any exterior water bottle holders that were very effective. There are pockets on each hip, but I got sick of my water bottle getting dented up and scratched, so I quit using them.
After only a couple weeks of use carrying only one book daily, the lining in the middle pocket started tearing away from the pack. I figured this was just a fluke and I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning it since overall, I liked the pack and this did not affect any functionality in my mind. I used in this fall semester and it worked great for all my books and computer. Today however, the zipper on the main pocket is now tearing away from the pack. This pack is now un-usable. I am sending it in for warranty and my only hope is that they replace it with a different model.
I have owned numerous Marmot items in the past and have been nothing but completely satisfied until this pack.

Is this backpack waterproof? Also, does it have two large zippered pockets or just one? I need a backpack for school that can carry my laptop and a couple big books and was wanting to know if this will do the job or if there is another one better suited for my needs. Thanks.

It does have 2 large zippered pockets, one medium pocket, and 2 small side zipper pockets.
Large (inner) Pocket 1: Holds laptop's 15-16" wide and 10" length. Also room in this pocket for large school books, binders, etc. Has a zippered pocket and a sleeve pocket.
Large (middle) Pocket 2: Has a smaller zippered pocket with key clip. Ipod and phone mesh sleeve, 2 pen holders, and room to carry books, binders, etc.
Medium (outer) pocket: Small zippered pocket, two separate sleeves, one can hold a 32oz nalgene bottle or a larger style laptop charger. The other fit my smaller coffee thermos. Enough room in there to stuff a rain jacket, rain pants for day hike.
Small (outer) pocket: has vertical zipper, good place for passport / plane ticket / cliff bar.
Two small side pockets: It's a tight fit, but you can put a 1L bottle in each of these. I also found them fitting for a camera, extra pair of socks, winter cap, etc

Favorite backpack ever

This is the best travel bag I've ever had. It has enough pockets and spaces to keep things organized (multiple currencies, multiple phones, etc). The quality is excellent - typical Marmot - and it is very comfortable when fully loaded. It also looks clean enough to bring to all but the most formal business meetings, even in Europe. I only wish Marmot was still making them. I'd buy another and I have friends who want them.
