Landfills are not rad, and neither is getting wet and uncomfortable in the backcountry. Marmot tackled both issues and made the Men’s Red Banks Jacket with recycled, waterproof breathable UpCycle fabric. This fabric protects you from snow and drizzle and keeps material out of our landfills. The Angle-Wing Movement design means you can lift your arms without exposing your stomach, and pitzips that extend into the body help dump heat when you get warm on the trail. Use the laminated brim on the storm hood to deflect moisture, and stash snacks in the front pack pockets—these pockets don’t interfere with a waist-belt.

Bottom Line: Stay dry and reduce your environmental footprint.

Great Shell for Skiing

By:

Great hard shell. Worked well against wind and snow. Obviously, this jacket requires a couple of layers underneath to keep warm. The hood greatly impaired peripheral visibility down the mountain. Otherwise, I would recommend as a great outer layer.

it can be used for skiing. it has an attached storm hood, pit zips for venting, and cinch cords for bad weather. just no powder skirt or insulation so layering will be needed.

Nice Feel, but odd fit.

I just recieved my red banks jacket. I haven't used it yet, but my first impressions are: very nice comfortable soft feel for a hard shell. I am a bit concerned about the durability of the exterior. I am a tall large size, so bought the XL to fit lenght of arms, which is right but feel like I'm swimming in the rest of the coat, torso is very long. I plan to exchange it for a Large. Considering I haven't used it yet I can only give it 3 stars.

Looking for a good waterproof jacket for a decent price. Have looked at TNF Venture jacket, Marmot Precip and Patagonia Rain Shadow. Looking for something a bit heavier than Venture & Precip, perhaps similar in weight/warmth to TNF Mountain Light. Does the Red Banks fit my parameters? If not, any suggestions?

The Red Banks would fit your parameters pretty well. Its heavier than the jackets you listed, coming in at 1lb 6oz. it has the necessary hood, waterproof MemBrain 2L and lots of other good features that will make this a good jacket especially for the price.

This looks like a nice coat and will do you well as a snowboarding SHELL..However, there are others that may be more technical (more water/wind proof) in this price range.
