Yes it is suitable for alpine climbing but if you plan on using crampons dont forget some gators to give you a bit of protection. Nothing worse than ripping a new pair of pants

Most Softshell material from marmot has a velvety type feeling on the inside and I would imagine these to be the same
they may not be super windproof like hardshell pants but they are great for touring where you work up some heat and dont want to be all sweaty
