Description

Protect your face so you don't end up with turtle-like skin.

If you don't want to be known later on in life as 'Leather Face,' turn to the Marmot Precip Safari Hat. It'll keep the sun off of your face and the rain off of your head, thanks to its wide brim and water-repellent fabric. In case you end up flipping your boat while rafting don't panic—this sweet hat floats in water and won't sink into the realm of lost sunglasses. A detachable and adjustable chin strap lets you secure the Safari on blustery days, and a magnetic side closure allows you to flip the brim up or down.

The material is water repellent, but flimsy such that any breeze blows that hat up into the magnets holding the sides up. The biggest problem though, are little plastic clips that hold the chin strap. They are right where your ears are and when its cold, wet, windy, and your ears are cold, the clips bang into your cold ears causing pain...

the engineering in the magnetic brim snaps is flawed if there's so much as the smallest breeze. For the amount of money spent on this hat you'd think the design and engineering folks would have tested the hat in a real world setting. Very disappointing!

Took this on a 14.2 mile rountrip dayhike along the Ice Age Trail and it performed perfectly. It was 93 degrees with high humidity. When I was above the treeline I pulled both brims down to shade my neck and shoulders and when I was shaded by the trees I used the magnets to clip it back up.

I love this hat and look forward to wearing it with every trail I encounter. Good Buy.

P.S. I never had any of the problems the other reviewer had with his hat.

There are two big flaws in this hat. The first is the root problem of the other flaw, the materials are completely flimsy. The hat doesn't hold a shape at all, if you stuff it in your pack you will be fighting with it to return it to a usable shape. The brim has a magnet in it that snaps to the base so you can run around with the sides of the hat up for some inexplicable reason. The problem is if there is ever a slight breeze it blows that flimsy material up and SNAP! you are walking around with one half of your hat up. If you pull it down SNAP! again. Eventually you just get sick of messing with it and resign yourself to thinking about how much your ear is getting burned and wondering how big of a tool others think you are. I don't expect a light weight hat to be completely rigid in the wind, but violently snapping into a completely useless position is just not what I'm looking for.
