  • Underarm vents circulate air to keep you cool
  • DriClime chin guard adds a soft layer behind the zipper at the face to prevent chin chafing

I love this jacket in nearly all respects, from the fleece lining around the colar to the way it keeps me bone dry. The pocket zippers, however, are of poor quality and have failed twice in the past 2 years. I sent the jacket back to Marmot the first time they broke and they replaced (2 months). They just failed again, but instead of sending it back again for another 2 months, I'll just buy another brand.

Chose this brand/model after shortlisting at least 10. Wanted a short waterproof jacket that would cover the seat, have a hood, be lightweight, and if possible come in beautiful colours. (I love walking through the rain with no umbrella, so excellent quality is a must.) Very impressed with the jacket and Backcountry service. Lowest online price right now for exactly the colour I wanted, super-fast shipping & clear checkout. The jacket is wonderful - extremely lightweight but with a thick, durable waterproof layer, adjustable hood that stays where it's supposed to, and big pockets that also close with velcro. Worked great in torrential rain. The colour is exactly as pictured on the website; very visible on cloudy rainy days and very refined. A+++ product + Backcountry.

I bought the Marnot PreCip cobalt blue Jacket for my wife to protect her from wind and rain. I know Marmot to produce excellent gear; so I wasn't surprised that the jacket did a wonderful job keeping her dry and comfortable when we encountered fairly high winds and a heavy spring rain while camping recently. My wife, Joan, loved the main front zipper because it didn't hang, and she also liked the draw strings on the cuffs and the adjustable hood. I expected this....................
But what I didn't expect was how much Joan really loved the style of the jacket; the "really beautiful color" and the way it fit. It was if I had given her a GIFT. She carries the jacket with her now whenever she leaves the house. All in all a winner for the both of us!!!!!!!

I was looking for a good warm weather rain jacket, and this is perfect. It is very water proof, unlike my old one. The hood has a nice bill that keeps your face dry too. It is very comfortable and loose fitting, good for layering. My only complaint is that the pockets are high, so not very comfortable for resting your hands in. I love this jacket, and love the color, blue sea.

Hi Emily,
The pockets are high so when you wear a pack that has a waist strap you can access your pockets without having to unbuckle the waist strap. I hope this helps explain why they are so high on the jacket.

my sis needed an umbrella but i was dry

Keeps me dry in light to moderate rain, decent protection from wind as well. The jacket is thin and not very warm, definitely best for mild temps or as a layering piece. The fit is very flattering. I'm 5'4" and about 130 lbs with sort of narrow shoulders, small waist and a short torso. I usually buy small tops and this size small jacket leaves me with plenty of room to put a sweater underneath. Got it in rose red/persian red, a past season color. Get compliments on it all the time.

In rain gear, you typically get what you pay for. This is a functional, light rain jacket that keeps the rain off. I just keep it in my day bag and if it starts to rain I pull it out. It is thin so I like to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath it, otherwise I get cold because you can feel that it's wet on the outside even though it's dry on the inside. If you're wanting it for daily torrential downpours, I would buy something different, but if you want something to throw in your day pack for occasional rain showers, this jacket is awesome!

Would this be appropriate for early...

Would this be appropriate for early spring/late fall rain wear? Would it require a fleece or more layering?

Personally I feel it is a summer rain jacket and has a fit easy to layer for late spring and early fall. I am looking for slightly heavier coat now because it just does not cut it when it is raining heavy and cooler temps. It is however a great travel coat for light rain and wind. Very packable.. Lastly, after one too many times of super soaker storms mine is just not as waterproof. After 15 minutes in heavier rain i am often getting damp and the coat is only 3 yr old and has had low to moderate usage. Hope this helps.

Hello! I bought the jacket and in five days arrived at my home in Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is lightweight, practical, and is currently being tested by my daughter in the Andes, Valle Nevado, Santiago, Chile. Soon will update the effectiveness of the jacket. hugs!

The Precip Jacket has never let me down in a rain storm. It has kept me dry in the city, in the mountains, and in the English countryside, where the affinity for getting wet is much better testing ground then my home in SLC. I am 5'2" with broad shoulders for someone my size, but the small fits me well and comfortably. The cut is close to the body and figure flattering. I have also used the Precip during spring skiing, the pit zip ventilation is a huge plus, especially as many rain jackets don't have any ventilation. I also love the size and roominess of the hood. Many hoods are too tight/small and leave my neck feeling scrunched down to my shoulders, which is so uncomfortable I'd rather get wet than get put my hood up. However, the Precip has plenty of room for my neck and shoulders to relax comfortably and my head to move.

Excellent Fit, dry, warm body

This is a great light/packable rainjacket for hiking. It'll keep you pretty dry as long as it's not a total downpour (when it starts getting that moist stick-to-you feeling (which is to be expected with material so light). I'm 5'9" 170 36C and got the large. It fits nicely, but the hood is too short. If I put it up over my head, my forehead is exposed, even if I cinch it down.

I have been through two of these jackets. The first got stolen, so i only had it a few weeks. The newest Ive had about a year and a half. I live in Boulder, so I don't get a lot of rain. However, recently went to see a Rockies game with rain forecast, so brought the jacket. Sure enough, it started pouring. Put on the jacket, cinched it up tight... wasn't I surprised when I felt water dripping down my back and arms. I would have been better off with no jacket, rather than the wet mess this became. Now I'm in the market for a new, actually waterproof, rain jacket.

I bought this jacket a couple weeks ago and it's wonderful. My old jackets were leaky and it took a couple tries to find something new up that is up to the task. And this jacket really is. The spring rains hit hard and I've been out in them, feeding horses and running with my dogs and the jacket hasn't let me get wet at all! I wish it had snaps instead of the velcro strips on the front but it still works just fine. Definitely a keeper.

I've had one of these jackets for a year and a half, and I use it in the backcountry pretty frequently. While working as a guide in the Adirondack High Peaks (where it is rains large amounts frequently), I used this and the matching pants for rain protection. It wasn't that great, the material wetted out very quickly and even when zippered all the way up and cinched closed water still managed to make its way through the material and typically soaked my baselayers. If you are not expecting squalls, the jacket should be just fine, but if you are out for extended periods and really need to be dry, I would recommend spending a little extra money and getting a good Gore-tex rain layer or something a little more reliable.

I got this jacket for Christmas and I couldn't be happier. It is so lightweight and I love that it is packable into it's own pocket. I have used it several times hiking in cold rain and it has kept me dry. I can put it over my pack and it is still roomy enough to not be uncomfortable. I compete for the Wasatch Speed Goat Mountain Racing Team and it will definitely be with me as I travel and run in all kinds of weather.

The Precip is on my "must have" list for any winter run, any mountain hike, and for any long endurance race. I KNOW it will perform. I've tried other jackets, but still go back to the precip I find it to be the best balance between real waterproof protection and lightweight packability.. there are lighter jackets out there, but they are not waterproof. The precip will fold up easily and tie on the back of my pack, and it has performed well in warm summer downpours and sub-freezing winter outings in snow and hail and sleet. I am 5'2" and the medium size is not too big, but allows me to put this on over a hydration pack if I need to. the chin guard is not scratchy and the hood stays in place. For the price, you simply can't find a better lightweight rain jacket...

Precip is super functional and looks pretty too. I'm 5'11" and the jacket has enough length in the arms to keep me from looking like an idiot, and the body covers my full torso no problem. The underarm vents work like they should, and the jacket itself is light and folds up super tiny for when space matters. Have plenty of room in this one to stay comfortable when hiking or running. The chin guard is legit- and does its job, so its comfy even when fully zipped. Good price, good look, good jacket.

What size did you order? I'm about 5'11" as well and often have problems finding women's jackets that are long enough in the arms and torso. Thanks!

Just bought this Jacket, it is the first...

Just bought this Jacket, it is the first rain jacket I'v ever needed to purchase but it seems to be awfully loud when I move... is this common & will the sound die down with wear?

Hey there, no its normal for it to have that nylon "swish" sound... its a product of the face material... if you don't like it you need to find other mfg's with different face materials...
