Sometimes a rain jacket can feel like a stiff, crinkly-old tarp. Not the Marmot Women's Oracle Jacket. Think Stretch Anatomic Articulation and breathable MemBrain fabric.
Waterproof breathable MemBrain fabric blocks the wet without creating a sauna feel
Fully taped seams deny rain even during a deluge
Zip-off hood reduces bulk when the rain lets up
Angel-Wing Movement and stretch panels increas flexibility and range of motion
Bottom Line: Oracle comfort during your next downpour.
I bought this rain jacket at Backcountry.com after doing a lot of web searches. Backcountry had the lowest price that I could find. The coat is relatively fitted and not blousy which I like so it hangs well. I also love the zip-off hood which is large enough to provide good coverage from the elements, but most important, I can take it off when I want. I wish all raincoats had completely detachable hoods because they're much more comfortable. The only negative for me is that the sleeves can feel a little clammy against my skin if I'm wearing short sleeves or a tank top underneath. That said, this is the best rain coat for the money and quality I could find.
I'm wondering if I need a s or a m to be able to put a fleece under it hiking in the Andes. I want it for the waterproofness. Any other brands in this price range you would recommend?
I needed a lightweight waterproof jacket for those times I have to stand in the rain watching my kid play soccer. I wanted it to be a bit fitted, longer in the back, and able to wear a sweater underneather for those colder days. I finally hit upon this jacket. I was a bit apprehensive because I'm a definite XS (2P to be exact) and a lot of jackets may say XS but are too large. I am so glad I took the risk and bought the jacket. The fit was perfect, roomy enough for another layer underneath, breathable, and I love the color. I wish it were a bit longer in the back, but hey, I'm not complaining.

I just bought an older version of the Oracle on clearance and have been very satisfied thus far. You can tell it's a nice jacket by the material, fit and various bells/whistles. However, as far as fit is concerned, I'd warn those ladies with wide hips like myself that this jacket comes down a little over your bum and if you have a large hip/waist ratio, you should probably order up a size so it will fit everywhere. It just barely fits me; were it any tighter I would have needed to bump up to a medium. Also, the Tech Specs say there's no core venting, but mine has pit zips...a nice and surprisingly unobtrusive addition.
I have worn this jacket on a run in moderate rain and didn't get wet at all until I pointed the loose sleeve up to the sky and got water inside - my silliness, not the jacket's fault.
In sum, buy this jacket and you'll likely stay dry and look quite nice whether it's currently raining or not. I'll update the review after this piece faces more serious weather.

Amazing. Super light weight and packable. Blocks the rain from hitting but so far I've only tested it in the northeast. Would definitely recomment this.
