waterproof/breathable softshell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

When I was hiking, the Nabu never ?wet out? or made base layers feel clammy or caused the down in my vest to clump ? the chest pockets as vents just needed to be opened an inch or so for venting when I was really huffing up the trail. When I was skiing, it provided plenty of wind blocking so I didn?t get gill. There?s extra stretch in the shoulders and something called a ?grid back? for extra breathability under a pack ? it?s a lot more comfortable than the typical restrictive feel of too many waterproof-breathables.

Love, love, love it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 4"
    Weight: 115 lbs
    Size Purchased: Extra small

Lovely cherry tomato red color, very good workmanship quality, extremely flattering skinny cut without the bulk vs other boxy ski jackets, lightweight, waterproofed, highly breathable, durable fabric with some stretch and a perfect fit. Was a little worried if it would be warm enough as it was only a shell and pretty lightweight - yes it amazingly was, wore a lightweight base layer with it for skiing in 0 - 3 deg C temperature. Above 4 deg C, without base layer or something thinner as it would get too warm - could literally feel the layer of heat in between the body and jacket especially if the sun was out, though no sweat. Below 0 deg C, with a mid weight base layer only because sitting on the ski lift chair with the wind blowing could be quite chilly, though having the hood on helped tremendously - the wind apparently got through in between spaces around the neck area when the hood was down. Hood fits over a ski helmet, if it feels chilly on the ski lift chair - put on the hood. And, the angel-wing movement for arms is real - the jacket does not hike up when you lift your arms like other jackets.

Solid Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been looking for a softshell for winter mountaineering that had great range of motion. I looked at the Marmot ROM but found the material to be very thin,. necessary for the extreme stretch it allowed. The Nabu is also quite stretchy but is a burlier material without being heavy or restrictive. I've used it skiing and ice climbing. It preformed superbly in both environments. I can fit a down sweater or puffy underneath. The hood works well over a climbing helmet. I didn't use it over my ski helmet. Good complement to my burly Patagonia hardshell for less harsh, but still fiercely winter days. I'm 5'7", 130lbs and the small fits great.

Love it

  • Fit: True to size

This jacket is amazing! It has been a perfect jacket this winter, as it has been so warm. The Nabu has proved to be waterproof and breathable. It does not have pit zips, but opening up the large front pockets does allow for extra ventilation when you need it. I have used this jacket from hiking and lapping up the resort to around town and it has been a great go to for all. It moves with me and is in no way restrictive. I'm 5'9" 140lbs and a medium fits perfect, with enough room for layers. I love this jacket and so will you!

What is the inner lining of the jacket made of? Fleece? Mesh lining?

Responded on

This jacket is a shell only, so no liner . With that being said, the interior pockets on both the left and right front panels are made from polartec fleece that go from the chest to about 3in from the bottom of the jacket.

Thank you! One more question, what is the main difference between this jacket and the marmot ROM windstopper? I am looking for a windproof (my main concern)/water-resistant (or atleast some water repellent) jacket for camping and hiking in the fall/spring. I like them both but am unsure which will uphold my expectations the most.

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Really awesome jacket. It's light weight, easy to pack in my day pack. I am a size medium for fleece, but order a large for this jacket. Fits great. I currently live in interior Alaska, the jacket comes handy for the unpreditable weather here. Highly Recommended.

Fabulous Jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've been wearing my Nabu jacket throughout the spring - it's fabulous. This jacket is 100% waterproof...AND breathable. Looks sharp like a traditional softshell, while keeping me dry on a wet day. Love it.
