Zip into the Marmot Men's Moran Softshell Jacket and leave that trailhead in the dust. This highly breathable, water-resistant softshell provides do-anything versatility for changing weather conditions. Part of Marmot’s M softshell series, the Moran Jacket keeps you warm and dry in all but the nastiest conditions. The stretchy, nearly-windproof softshell provides an unrestricted fit thanks to Marmot's Angel-Wing Movement design, so your jacket doesn't crawl up every time you place a piece of protection or bend over to buckle your ski boots. This dynamic outer layer gives you plenty of room for light layering, and the internal security pocket keeps tabs on your keys, phone, and other small items while you make your way along the trail, down the slopes, or up the route.

Bottom Line: A durable and protective layer for foul conditions.

Great Jacket

By:
August 8, 2010

I've never owned a softshell jacket before the Moran. Honestly, never saw a need for a softshell. I have to admit that I was wrong. I love this jacket.

The fit is fantastic. Not baggy, but easily enough room for some light layering underneath for cold mornings. I've even worn my First Ascent Downlight Vest underneath for warmth on cold spring nights. The jacket's material stretches with movement which makes it super comfortable while scrambling.

what is a better softshell in terms of warmth and protection

what is a better softshell in terms of warmth and protection from the elements?--the moran or the north face bionic apex

i would recommend the moran. it has a better weather protection using polartec windbloc, which will be more effective than the bionic and its apex softshell.

Moran is the man

I love this jacket, when i have a hooded sweatshirt or sometype of insulation on underneath it. With a thin type interior, I stay outside with the wind at around 5-15 degrees F. That is if I am doing athletic activities, though. It is amazing against rain. I could stand out in the pouring rain, and only my collar got wet because the cinch cord around the neck couldn't cover my skinny neck. It is also o.k. against the wind. If it is blowing hard, you can feel the chill on the inside of the jacket. The nice fleecy liner is great, and I would recommend this jacket over the North Face Apex Bioncic anyday. The black jacket with red zippers is also rad. The only complaint I have is that there could be a weighted fleece on the inside, but I guess softshells aren't supposed to have that. This jacket does it's job straight up!!

I've never owned a Marmot softshell...do they run true to

I've never owned a Marmot softshell...do they run true to size? I'm 6'1 170lbs slender build and a Marmot bonfire hoodie that I have is just almost too small in a medium. I have a normal length torso and arms so a large in most jackets tend to be too long in the sleeves.

I'm about your same build except I have a little issue with having monkey arms. Larges fit me a little lose but just right for comfort and layering. These jackets do run true to size. You might also check out some of the soft-shells from backcountry.com. They've got some great new shells!Hope that helps.

Super comfy jacket.Fits well I wear a medium and i'm 5'11" and weigh 155 pounds. It goes great by itself or a light layer fits well under it.It blocks wind pretty well and will keep you dry for the most part.

Which softshell jacket would you recommend for a 23 year old

Which softshell jacket would you recommend for a 23 year old college guy- lives in Savannah, GA and goes to school in Athens, Ga? He doesn't have any type of fleece so I want to get something warm, but didn't know between the Marmot Moran and North Face Apex Thermal Bionic Jacket which would be best for him- not only for warmth, but also which looks better...I can't decide! He had mentioned that he like the North Face before, but he has never seen the Marmot to know which he would like better.

I have a Mountain Hardwear Synchro and love it (I'm 25.) And the Patagonia Guide jackets are great as well.

I am 23 and I own a Mountain Hardware Alchmey soft shell and LOVE it! As far as the two you have mentioned I would go with Marmot. It looks better and most of all it out performs the TNF.

Great For Cold Weather

By:
March 9, 2010

Great looking jacket, cut fairly long, medium fits length wise, if a little loose on me(6'3", 155), but I'm a skinny bastard.

The windbloc really works, I use it for biking to class in the midwest, never feel the wind at all.

It breathes better than my windstopper sharp point, despite its lack of pitzips, and is almost as warm.

Don't expect to wear this in high output activities if its over 40 or so though, you will over heat, even with just a light t-shirt

Love it

This jacket is great. No pitzips, but still pretty breathable. Great for chilly days. Softshell so far is very durable, and the fit is perfect for me (always a medium, runs true). I'd buy at full price, instead of the killer SAC discount.
