A wintertime luxury.

Underneath its elegant design and rich details, the Marmot Women's Montreaux Down Coat is a cold-weather killer. The 700-fill down insulation's high warmth-to-weight ratio means you stay super warm without being weighed down by a heavy winter coat, and the down compresses easily for convenient packing on vacations. Marmot added its proprietary Down Defender treatment to the down so the feathers won't lose warmth if wetness happens to seep through the shell's DWR coating and the plush fleece lining's WR coating. The long length of this coat extends the down warmth past your mid-thighs so you stay extra cozy whether you're sporting slacks or boots, leggings, and a skirt.

The Montreaux also features an insulated hood that keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie every day, and both the hood and its fashionable fur ruff are removable. Marmot lined the front pockets with micro fleece for a cozy feeling your fingers appreciate. The internal zippered pocket is the best place to protect your phone, and the internal drop pocket stores your gloves when you make it to work, completely warm and dry of course.

  • Polyester shell with DWR coating
  • Plush fleece-lined torso with WR coating
  • 700-fill down insulation with Down Defender treatment
  • Long length
  • Zip-off, down filled hood with removable fur ruff
  • Microfleece-lined hand-warmer pockets
  • Internal zippered pocket
  • Internal drop pocket

Here's what others have to say...

Solid product.

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'6"
    Weight: 150 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

So far, so good. I have worn the coat a few times (only because it hasn't been cold enough every day yet where I live) and am impressed by the quality, comfort and fit of this coat. I look forward to staying warm in this all winter, as I live in Michigan. Also, the lining is super soft and warm. I would definitely recommend this coat.

my mother has 98 cm chest - should i pick L or XL? cause some people here write that it runs small

I have 36DD bust and ordered the medium. I feel it fits true to size.

Best jacket I've ever owned!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'3"
    Weight: 95 lbs
    Size Purchased: Extra small

A couple of years ago I went on the search for the perfect winter jacket. For me that was stylish yet VERY warm and I hit the jackpot with this! I bought and returned numerous jackets including Northface, Patagonia and Canada Down. .not one was as warm as this jacket. 2 years later (and used SO often ) it still looks brand new. I wouldn't have been surprised if this jacket started to fall apart from the wear I've gotten out of it but I can honestly say not a single issue! I get compliments all the time and have convinced many friends to try it (they too now live in it) If you're on the fence about which jacket to go with, I did all the comparing for you and this was the winner, hands down! As for fit, I'm 5'3 and about 95 pounds, it comes to my knees and fits perfectly. If you plan on wearing a thick sweatshirt layered underneath, it may get a little snug under the arm (I have never had the need to layer, even in below zero temps...and I'm always freezing!)

I'm 5'11" and 140 lbs. with broad shoulders and 38-31-38 What size would you recommend?

Hi Anne, I wouldn't know for sure but I can tell you that for me, it fit true to size. I am 5'3 and under 100 pounds, the extra small fits me great. It is down to my knees due to my small size but it keeps me WARM! If I want to wear a thick sweatshirt underneath, it can get a little tight in the underarm area. The jacket is so warm, I wouldn't dare layer it but if that is something you think you may do then I'd take into consideration the snug fit under the arms

How do I adjust the hood on this coat?

The fur zips right off and the hood itself has hidden velcro attachments. In fact, they are so well hidden and constructed that until I saw your question and looked at my coat, I never noticed the hood can be adjusted. I've had this jacket for 2 years!

Just What I Wanted

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'5"
    Weight: 170 lbs
    Size Purchased: XL

I was looking for a longer length down coat that was warm and stylish. This is it! I love how light it is and yet so cozy. The detachable hood is great. The lining is soft, not cold and slippery. The wrist covers inside the sleeves keep out the drafts. And it fits perfectly!

The perfect coat

  • Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'11"

I gave this coat as a gift for my sister who is always cold. She loves the fit, color and style. On her first day of wearing it she received many complements and said she's never been warmer.

At 5'11," 135 lbs, I ordered a size Large to get the longer sleeves. The coat, however, was way too roomy, and it's going back. Love the coat, otherwise. Any one know what the difference is, sleeve-length-wise, between the Medium and the Large?

Marmot says there will be a 1" difference, in the sleeve length. I hope the medium works for you! Hit me up directly, if it doesn't.

I didn't try in cold days yet

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'0"
    Weight: 136 lbs
    Size Purchased: Small

Some people says it is not true to size, I don't agree with them. I am 5 feet even and 136 lb. and bought small , fits perfect. I have a room for sweater as well. It is true to size. It seems to be very good coat with microfleece lining for winter than my husband's 700 fill marmot coa. He bought it last year and he couldn't wear it here, in TN, wasn't warm enough. If I don't update anything in cold days , means it will be warm enough :).

I'm sure it will keep me very warm

    Size Purchased: medium

Thank goodness, cold weather has not hit, but with family in Montana I needed a very warm coat. This coat feels light and comfortable, yet I am certain will keep me warm. I needed to exchange for a larger size, and customer service was excellent.

I am buying this for my boyfriend's mom for Christmas. I'd say she is 5'5" or so. Her bust makes her look larger than she is. I'd call her mid-weight for a typical American 55 year old. My family doesn't have a bust issue so I don't know how to guess size for her. She asked for an XL. I (5'8"/145) have a M in an older style. Do you think that XL will be appropriate for her? It looks like some people say this runs a little small . . . what is exchange policy if I buy now and deal with size after Christmas??
Thank you, friends!

(Posting under my husbands acct.)

In my opinion this coat only runs a tad small in the upper shoulders for taller bigger shouldered ppl. I'm 5'7" athletic/slender build 130lbs. I could wear a small but sleeves would be too short. Medium fits me best. XL seems like way too much coat for 5'5"?? This is a long length coat...I'd think the shorter thigh length Montreal would be more appealing to ppl on the shorter side.

Unanswered Question

Just got this coat for my mom. How do you adjust the hood? How are the elastic cords secured once you pulled them tighter?
Steel gray is a great color. The coat is beautiful and appears to be warm but theres no way of knowing until she wears it in a polar vortex. Ill be sure to write a review once its worn. Til then, just need to solve the mystery hood issue. Thanks Backcountry. Youre the best

Unanswered Question

I am 5'2" and 115 pounds.. what size should I get extra small or small??

I am ordering for my wife. She is 5'8" 135-140, fairly long arms. Probably a 34C bust. Overall slim to athletic build. Trying to decide between a Medium or Large. We live in Colorado. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Brandon spoke to some women around the office. The medium should be big enough to not only fit but, allow for a light layer underneath. The large is going to be too big and baggy on her.

I see you grabbed the Large already, let me know what you think when you get it, we could definitely be wrong here, fit is pretty specific to the person.

Posting from my husbands profile 😉....I'm 5'7" (longer arms)130lbs slender build. I wear a medium in this jacket. The Large is too bulky around the middle. The jacket fits really nice but I would prefer another 1/2 inch in the sleeves and a hair more space in the shoulders... I find that's typical w my build.

What size would you choose for a person who is 5' 7 and 190 lbs?

Based on those measurements alone, it would be really difficult to guess your size! Check out our size guide here - others have said that this jacket runs a little small, so if you are right in between sizes or want to layer up underneath, then I'd size up!

Is the fur on the hood real or fake?

I wish it fit me !

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs small

    Size Purchased: XL

This coat is beautiful. It has all the features I was looking for--I'm preparing for another "polar vortex" this winter in Chicago. Unfortunately, even though I ordered an XL, it fit very snugly over the trunk part of my body. I am 5 ft, 1.5 inches tall, but getting big around the waist. I weigh 155. This coat would be great (long on me, but that's OK--I want the length to keep my legs warm. long also in the sleeves, but not too long to wear), it is a beautiful color, great microfleece lining , and deep, deep hood. But I have to have room underneath my outermost layer for thick fabrics, sweaters, etc. I am sad to return it.

Warm and Cozy

This coat has so many wonderful features. I ordered both the red and blue coats in this style and the Montreal. I tested them side-by-side with some coats I had ordered from Lands End. All of the coats were very nicely made and great quality, but the Marmot coats had details that the others didn't have--long, full hood, fleece-lined pockets, internal cuffs, a collar that fit my neck.... and just the general feel of the coat. It is not very cold yet, but I did test each of the coats outside in the cool air. The Marmot coats by far were the warmest and coziest. Just so you know, the colors are not nearly as bright as they show on-line, or even inside my house. I took the coats outside and the navy and red both look MUCH more muted than deep and midnight as they are described, but still lovely. I have an athletic build and the medium fit very snuggly, especially around the back and chest area. I could hardly even zip it up. I was able to fit perfect in the Montreal medium, so it does have a different cut than this coat. The large fit much better but the length is a bit long on me (5' 2"). But since I am looking for a coat to use for my bus duty in chilly Wisconsin, I think the longer length will be appreciated. Overall, it is a fantastic coat.

5'6" and 125 pounds, what size would you recommend?

I'd say a small would fit you well. I'm 5'7" 140 and I can wear either a small (when I don't have much under) or a medium when I'm wearing something a bit more bulky.

Fits great!!

I saw this jacket last winter but they only had a size XS and XL. When I saw they got new sizes I knew I had to buy one! Other customers said the jacket ran a size too small and the online representative told me to buy a Medium, but I went against both recommendations and ordered my regular size (small) and I'm so happy I did! I have broad shoulders and even with a fleece jacket underneath, the jacket still fits perfectly!

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I haven't tested it in the winter yet!

Overall, I'm very happy with this jacket and can't wait to test it out in a few months! :)
