Description

A wintertime luxury.

Underneath its elegant design and rich details, the Marmot Women's Montreaux Down Coat is a cold-weather killer. The 700-fill down insulation's high warmth-to-weight ratio means you stay super warm without being weighed down by a heavy winter coat, and the down compresses easily for convenient packing on vacations. Marmot added its proprietary Down Defender treatment to the down so the feathers won't lose warmth if wetness happens to seep through the shell's DWR coating and the plush fleece lining's WR coating. The long length of this coat extends the down warmth past your mid-thighs so you stay extra cozy whether you're sporting slacks or boots, leggings, and a skirt.

The Montreaux also features an insulated hood that keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie every day, and both the hood and its fashionable fur ruff are removable. Marmot lined the front pockets with micro fleece for a cozy feeling your fingers appreciate. The internal zippered pocket is the best place to protect your phone, and the internal drop pocket stores your gloves when you make it to work, completely warm and dry of course.

  • Polyester shell with DWR coating
  • Plush fleece-lined torso with WR coating
  • 700-fill down insulation with Down Defender treatment
  • Long length
  • Zip-off, down filled hood with removable fur ruff
  • Microfleece-lined hand-warmer pockets
  • Internal zippered pocket
  • Internal drop pocket

Best coat EVER!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 5"
    Weight: 140 lbs
    Size Purchased: Large

Extremely warm, flattering and comfortable. This coat was worth every penny! Runs small so order one size up.

Can I be put on a waiting list for a jacket that you are currently sold out of?

Responded on

Hi there,
If we have a model ordered to come in, we can most definitely notify you once it arrives. If you are interested in the Montreaux Down Jacket, unfortunately we do not have any more ordered to come in at this time, sorry about that!

Worth every penny

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 2"
    Weight: 110 lbs
    Size Purchased: small

This coat is so warm and so comfortable. I absolutely love it! It has been negative temps lately (up to -35 F) and it has kept me so warm. I also love the look of it and get compliments on it every time I wear it. I debated about buying it for so long due to the price but finally took the plunge and could not be happier. I have zero buyer's remorse and only wish I had bought it sooner.

perfect for Michigan winter

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 8"
    Weight: 130 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

I researched long down insulated coats for a year before purchasing the Marmot Montreaux. I am from Michigan and wanted a coat that would be warm to wear for shoveling snow or walking in to work. I love every detail about this coat, like the removable fur liner, removable hood, fleece interior, and 2 interior pockets to keep my phone warm. I am 5'8" and a medium lands right below my kneecap. It is extremely warm and has performed great at -30degrees. I like that the down is treated with water repellent too. I wear it to the dog park a lot and I'm able to brush off dirt easily. The hem isn't too tight either like I found with a lot of other long coats, I can walk with ease without the coat limiting my stride.

Fashionable AND warm!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I've been looking for a very warm jacket that is also flattering...not as easy as it sounds! I splurged on this jacket (a bit pricy for my budget) and am SO GLAD I did! With wind chills in the -20 range and temps well below 0 on a regular basis, this jacket keeps me nice and warm without needing lots of under layers! I'm 5'3'' and 110 lbs, I ordered an XS first and had to exchange it for a S.

so warm and snuggly

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I cannot be cold wearing this coat, but I have only experienced normal cold weather in the 20's and above. On the size, I think it runs slightly small, so if you are inbetween, order up a size. I find it very comfortable and effective and attractive. I'm completely delighted with this coat.

Not warm and fit is off!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I live in Wisconsin and wore this outside twice in very frigid temps. There is no lining on the sleeves and my arms were cold. There is lining on the torso and not throughout the coat. Where the lining is stays pretty warm but my arms were cold.
Also, I am 5'2" and 150. I am apple shaped and this coat fits me poorly. The chest area is too large and the butt area too small for me. This coat is not made for curvy ladies...maybe it will fit someone like big busted Dolly Parton with no rear!!

worth it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love this coat. Im 5'3 and it hits below the knee, which is exactly what I wanted. It makes walking to work in the bitter cold bearable. Im never cold. I got the jacket a few weeks ago and have worn it almost every day since.

So Warm

  • Fit: True to size

This coat is FANTASTIC and completely worth every penny! I go to school in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the winds along Lake Superior can be really harsh and bitter. However, with this coat on I can't feel a thing... best coat I have ever owned!

Disappointed

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

Coat did NOT run true to size and was way too small, even though I ordered a size larger than I normally wear. Styling was way too narrow--normal people have hips!! I had hoped this would have been good enough to replace a 10-year old down coat which has served me well. It's warm, roomy and much longer than this one. The zipper is beginning to fail, which is why I decided to retire it. Alas. I will continue to use it, because the Marmot Montreaux Down Coat just doesn't cut it. I returned it the day it arrived.

In what country is this product made?

Responded on

Most Marmot product is made in China or Vietnam. All down is traceable and ethical treatment of animals.

Great Coat for Cold Weather

  • Fit: True to size

I live in Chicago and take the bus to and from work. I needed a coat to keep me warm on my daily walk and wait at the bus stop. This coat is perfect. It hits right at my knees and the sleeves are plenty long (i have long arms). I was debating between a L and XL (I am 5'8", 175 lbs, large bust, athletic build). The L fit perfectly, even with a sweater or sweatshirt under. I didn't even try the XL on. My only issue is that I have a small head so the hood is constantly coming down over my eyes if I don't have a hat on under it. But it is warm, handles the wind well and the pockets are deep. I also love that it doesn't make me look like a giant puffball, I actually have a waist with this jacket while staying warm. I read all the reviews before my purchase and I feel like I got the jacket that was described. I look forward to this being my go-to coat during the cold, winter months in Chicago.

Please tell me the fur is not real animal fur. Is this the case?

Love it !

  • Fit: True to size

So happy with this coat. It is the warmest coat I have ever owned. I'm 5'4" and it's a little long, but I wanted my legs to be warm when I sat down so I don't mind.

Expensive disappointment

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this $300.00 coat in December and at first it was perfect. It was long and warm to cover and protect everything I wanted it to. I was not able to have it on on days where the temperature was even close to 40 because it was too warm. This month I had to wash the coat for the first time. I followed the instructions to the T. The coat came out badly. It was bleeding feathers all over me- which irritated the heck out of my allergies as well, and it appeared to have shrunken, and the zipper then stuck when attempting to get it started - and, it was cold around the shoulders and the back and arms. I contacted Backcountry and they stated it was out of the 30-day return policy (only JUST out of 30 days!!) and gave me Marmot's warranty/ customer service number. Marmot had me send the coat in ( and of course I now do not have a coat in Indy in January!) and they got back to me today challenging me on the warranty issues stating it appears to be "in spec" after their inspections - they say nothing is wrong with it and not covered by warranty! ?? I spent a lot of money (for me) on this purchase and the coat didn't hold up, and the customer service and warranty (or lack thereof) SUCKS. HUGE disappointment. And, now I am out $300.00! I would definitely NOT recommend this coat! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. They will not honor their warranty and the coat will not last you a season.

Responded on

Thank you for the warning! I sent mine back due to being too small in the bust - so glad I did after your review! - but was going to reorder next year when they hopefully get the sizing proportions right. Knowing this company won't back their warranty I will not reorder. From now on I'll also order where there is no time limit on returns and where returns don't have to be in "new, tags attached" condition to get a cash refund so I have a chance to test it in the really cold weather (what if it's not 0 degrees or below in the 30 days after ordering?) and so that I can wash and see how it holds up.

Too small in bust

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I was looking for a warm longer length coat to replace an old L.L.Bean down coat I've had for many years. I initially ordered one from L.L. Bean only to find the quality had gone way down (claimed to be warm to -50 degrees and I was really cold at +20) and had to return. After reading how warm this coat was and wanting a coat that came at least to the knee I ordered this one. Unfortunately I had the same problem as several others have stated in that the coat was too tight in the bust. I'm 5'8", 117 lbs, 34B bust, usually wear an xsmall or size 2 on top but order a small in coats so I can add a sweater if needed. After reading that this coat tend to run small in the bust/shoulder area I sized up to a Medium figuring I would have plenty of room for a thick sweater. Wrong. Even with just a shirt on this was tight across the bust area. I tried it with a sweater and that made the coat uncomfortably tight. If I size up again to a Large the coat will be way too big in the waist and hip area and billow at the bottom. I'm sad I had to return because of fit.

I didn't get a chance to test how it performs in the cold since it was 40 degrees here today. It felt cozy and the lining was very soft. Except for the coat being too tight in the bust the rest felt comfortable and as cute as one can expect for this kind of coat. I wanted the purple color but it was sold out in my size so I got the black and was happy with the way it looked. Only problem for me in the looks dept was the fur on the hood. Mine didn't have any of the grayish tones like it does in the photo, it was a weird yellowish color. It looked like a really bad overprocessed blonde hair color and was ratty looking. Luckily that can be removed and I would have done so had I kept the coat. I liked that the fur and top of the hood can be folded back to give a clear field of vision . With the hood not folded back it fell over my eyes and I couldn't see. For now I'm going to just stick with my old L.L. Bean coat and try the Montreaux again next year when hopefully they read the reviews here and other places on the internet and in the future get the proportions right.

Will you be getting the cabernet, black, or dark steel back in stock in size M any time soon?

Responded on

Hey, we don't have any more coming in for the season but we do have ONE more Dark Steel left in the Medium. The one I had a review on below. Great color.

Let us know if you need assistance setting that up for you!

Fantastic!!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I tried 3 other winter coats this season, all of which i had to return because they were not warm enough. (One North Face and one Patagonia, and one other.) Finally this one was warm. The faux fur on the hood is lovely and you can fold it back if it's not cold enough to warrant that tunnel effect. The fleece cuffs and interior is LOVELY. And I love that the part of the neck that zips up has fleece lining on that as well so you don't have to deal with a freezing cold zipper on your chin. The length is great, interior pockets handy. I love this coat. LOVE it.

When will the Carbernet-S Montreaux Down coat be back in stock?

Responded on

Looks like we do have more of these on order, but the expected arrival date has passed by several weeks. This could mean that the vendor is unable to fulfill the quantity we ordered. At this point it does not look like we will be getting those back in stock! Sorry! Let us know if we can help you find a similar item!
