Description

A wintertime luxury.

Underneath its elegant design and rich details, the Marmot Women's Montreaux Down Coat is a cold-weather killer. The 700-fill down insulation's high warmth-to-weight ratio means you stay super warm without being weighed down by a heavy winter coat, and the down compresses easily for convenient packing on vacations. Marmot added its proprietary Down Defender treatment to the down so the feathers won't lose warmth if wetness happens to seep through the shell's DWR coating and the plush fleece lining's WR coating. The long length of this coat extends the down warmth past your mid-thighs so you stay extra cozy whether you're sporting slacks or boots, leggings, and a skirt.

The Montreaux also features an insulated hood that keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie every day, and both the hood and its fashionable fur ruff are removable. Marmot lined the front pockets with micro fleece for a cozy feeling your fingers appreciate. The internal zippered pocket is the best place to protect your phone, and the internal drop pocket stores your gloves when you make it to work, completely warm and dry of course.

  • Polyester shell with DWR coating
  • Plush fleece-lined torso with WR coating
  • 700-fill down insulation with Down Defender treatment
  • Long length
  • Zip-off, down filled hood with removable fur ruff
  • Microfleece-lined hand-warmer pockets
  • Internal zippered pocket
  • Internal drop pocket

WARM!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I was undecided on this coat when I got it because it runs a bit small, which creates a fitted less billowy look but also isn't always ideal with bulky sweaters underneath. I decided to keep it as I was heading to Minnesota and knew it would be super cold and wanted something long enough to keep my legs warm too. The coat was actually very good at keeping me warm the whole time I was there, wandering around all day outside in 18 degree weather. Very soft warm fleece insides and pocket warmers. Was comfy enough to keep zipped while sitting, etc. so performed better than I expected. I am a person who is ALWAYS cold and I really have to say this coat kept me warm and while maybe not the MOST stylish, is pretty cute and for the money, I don't think there is better. I got it on sale at BC for 25% off! It is a tad long so shorter people might prefer the Montreal version.

Love this coat!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I decided I was sick of being too cold in the winter and wanted a VERY warm, long coat for this year. I initially got the long, black North Face Parka. It was so lightweight, the wind went right through the sleeves and I was cold in no time. Returned it. Looked at tons of other down coats and was so disappointed in how little fill they are using these days. I finally discovered this Marmot coat. This coat is WONDERFUL! Really, truly warm. The inside has a super soft, fleece lining in the torso area. The fabric seems to be very wind proof. I have taken walks on very windy, cold days, and I feel nothing. I like the fact that it comes down to the top of my knees. I truly feel like I am wrapped up in my favorite comforter! The hood is really nice too. It stays put and if you leave the fur ruff on, it extends out further, keeping the wind off your face. I cannot say enough good things about this coat. It was well worth the money. Size wise- I am 5 ft, 3 1/2 inches tall and weigh 120. I ordered the Small. It fits fairly snugly. It is a pretty tight fit with a thick sweater. I like the fact that it is snug, but you should go up a size if this is a concern! I originally wanted my coat to be black, but this one wasn't available in black when I was shopping- so I got the dark steel color. Have to say, I'm glad I got this color. It is really good looking and different than every other coat you see these days.

What is the center back length of a medium?

Sleeping Bag or Down Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I can't say enough good things about this thing. It's a great option for a puffy long coat that you want to be able to wear in a storm or around downtown to keep you warm and dry from that light snowfall. Here are some of my favorite things:

- The Down Defender treatment is hard to beat from Marmot. It does great in a jacket or even my Trestles sleeping bag.
-The fleece lined backing and cuffs.
-The length. I'm 5'9" and it hits my knees. It doesn't run long, it is long.
-Detachable hood
-The Quality is hard to argue with. You get what you pay for. It's a beautifully made jacket. Once you open it up and wear it you'll realize that.
-Last but not least, the easy zippers. It's a two way zipper. Easy to zip and unzip. That's a favorite among their products. Also what's nice with this is it's never an issue to sit down or move around while I'm driving to make sure it's not too tight at the knees or hips. I've had jackets before that rip at the zipper because they don't have enough room at the bottom to allow movement. Not a problem AT ALL.

Highly recommended. Have anymore questions, get in touch with our gearheads!

Great Coat- Runs a bit long

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Overall this is a great coat. I tested out several coats before ordering this coat and I am very pleased.
PROS:
1) Very warm- I live in Chicago- It's been worn in 10 degree weather with strong winds. While this coat does not have a wind resistant shell, i still had decent wind protection- I think for the polar vortex days this will work but you will need some good base layers. If you wear this coat while it's in the 30's or 40's you will most likely be hot.
2) Very soft- the inside is lined in a very soft fleece-
3) Cuffs inside the sleeve- help seal you from the cold
4) There is a cinch for the hood and it is adjustable from the back.
5) 700 down but not bulky- slim fit

This coat fits true to size. I'm 4'10 and 95 lbs - I usually get an XS but i decided to go with the Small and I'm glad that i did for the extra room to layer. That being said, it is long- past my knees- but remember my height. :) I prefer the longer length so for me it's not an issue.

I do wish it had side zippers at the bottom- it is very slim fit so if you are trying to take a large step up or down, it's not easy. Not that big a deal to me but something to consider.

Bottom Line- Great Coat - runs a tad long, keeps me warm. Once a vortex hits again, I'll update.

Beautiful Coat

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I loved this coat but unfortunately had to send it back. I ordered a medium. I am 5'5 135 and I could not fit a sweater under it.
Customer Service was great and very helpful. My husband loved his vest, I will definitely order from backcountry again

Really warm but didn't fit

  • Fit: Runs small

I was disappointed to return the coat but it was too small in the chest/arms. I'm 5'6", 135 lbs and got a size M. I've tried a number of other similar coats from other brands and had the same problem --then try the L and it's a sloppy fit. I was encouraged by the reviews that this was going to be my perfect warm winter coat but it was not to be!

Does the hood have a cinch cord?

Correction to fit and length

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this as a gift for a 5'0" , 120 lb woman who normally wears a small but we had to exchange it from the Montreaux to the Montreal to get the shorter length and then increased the size to a Medium because it was too snug for wearing bulky clothing underneath. The color (Cabernet) was absolutely beautiful and she loved the soft feel of the coat (in fact she thought at first that I sent her a pillow). She is really looking forward to being able to stay warm during the cold New Mexico winter in this coat that she loves.

Not warm enough

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I live in Chicago and it was -2 degrees yesterday and I wore this coat. It looks nice and seems like it would be warm enough but it was not.
I was very cold.

Also on the model it hit above the knees. I normally wear a large but I had to order an XL and it fit. BUT, it went all the way down to my calves which was annoying . The zipper also wasn't very easy to use and it kept getting stuck.

Can this coat get soaked on rainy days and still keep it's warmth?

GREAT Question!
Marmot Down Defender is an insurance policy for your down garments and sleeping bags. This specially treated highly water-resistant down offers an extra level of moisture protection for down garments and sleeping bags exposed to wet environments. Down Defender helps prevent down from clumping and losing its loft when exposed to water, thereby greatly increasing its ability to keep you warm and comfortable.

*Stays drier 10 times longer than untreated down
*Maintains 150% more loft than untreated down in damp conditions
*Dries 30% faster than untreated down

LOVE!!!

  • Fit: True to size

I have searched and searched for a warm long coat. I finally found it after ordering 3 others! This coat is so warm without being super bulky. I ordered a medium and am 5'5" 135 lbs. and it fits great with room for thick sweaters under. I love that the fur and hood are removable. The pockets are super warm too. I went outside in 20 degree weather without gloves and my hands were starting to sweat while in the pockets. I highly recommend this coat. I bought a North Fact before this one and am returning the North Face. There is no comparison in my opinion.

Ultimate Winter Luxury

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

As I write this, mounds of snow are pilling up outside. It's only November and having this coat in my arsenal is a life saver. It feels like you've walked outside wrapped up in your favorite down comforter. It's stylish enough to wear around town, but has the technical components to keep you toasty warm.

An awesome, luxurious coat!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I just received my new coat yesterday and I love it! It is NOT cumbersome to put on and is luxuriously soft and lightweight. It is extremely well crafted; no stitch, nor thread was out of place! This is the first coat I've ever purchased that is truly a JOY to put on! It's like wrapping yourself in a soft blanket! I bought it primarily for warmth though-and it's 700 down fill - so as I live in Coastal Maine & the brutal cold isn't here YET (I write this in early Nov.) I will let you know later- how effective it is at keeping one warm! As a person who suffers with Fibromyalgia and Myopathy though-
the fact that it's so easy to put this coat on and to take it off is a HUGE benefit! I'll let you know what happens when the sub-zero temps and 25mph winds hit-but so far, it's a GREAT coat & I can't wait to put it on again! It's true to size in that my XL, is actually XL enough that I can wear a thick sweater and still move very comfortably in it. The sleeves are actually long enough that they don't "ride up" or pull when reaching! (and I'm a person with long arms who often has trouble finding garments with long enough sleeves)and the "details" of this coat are superb. The fleecy lining is some of the softest fabric I've ever touched and extends fully down the arms of the coat-as well as being in the "hand-warming" pockets that are actually properly & conveniently placed! I think this coat will prove to be well-worth its price and I'm looking forward to letting you know how it does in the more extreme weather conditions-

Love it and the customer service

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for a long down coat to keep me warm this winter in the below zero temps and this was it! After chatting online to make sure I was getting the right size I placed my order. It was delivered on time ! I am 5'11" and weigh about 220 and this coat is long and the sleeve length is great. Very lightweight and room to wear a sweatshirt underneath if need be. I ordered an XXl just to make sure there would be room for layers and it is exactly what I needed. I think an XL would have fit but not comfortably with anything other than 1 top on.

Northern bliss

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I got the Montreaux jacket from my husband for Christmas. We live in ND and this winter has had more days below zero than above zero. I needed a very warm jacket and one that could withstand the extreme wind that we get here as well. This jacket lives up to the test and then some! It is not extremely bulky so I don't feel like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. It washes easily with a damp wash cloth too (which is great because I got the Whitestone color). It fits pretty true to size. It comes to just above my knees. The hood is HUGE and covers my full face if I want it too (again-this helps with our high winds). I can wear a t-shirt under this jacket and be outside in -20, with the wind blowing full force and I don't feel a thing. I actually get very warm if I have too many layers on! Only one minor downfall is that when I have the jacket on and I am driving it is hard to see to my left when I turn my head to look for cars before changing lanes. I have learned to keep the hood off to my right shoulder. This is definitely worth the investment if you live in cold climates or are outside quite a bit in the winter.

Great coat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased this in late January, figuring that as soon as I bought it, the weather would turn. Of course, that's not what happened. I walk about 2 miles to work each way, so I bought this coat for very cold days. It is well-made, the fleece lining along your torso and at the cuffs really makes the jacket more comfortable to wear and warmer. I walk fast and I find that this coat is too warm above about 35F, unless it is very windy. Long story short, a great coat for cold days. A note on fit: I have broad shoulders and I did not find that I needed to go up a size, as some other reviewers have suggested.
